Electrical Reliability Engineer

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking an experienced Electrical Reliability Engineer for the Technical Services & Projects Department for the Superpit. This is a residential role on a 5/2:4/3 roster.

KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

The successful candidate will provide technical support for the Technical Services and Projects department, as well as conducting analytical work which will be used to identify, quantify and implement trials or facilitate activities to improve the overall performance KCGM’s processing plants.

Key accountabilities may include:

  • Ensure that all incidents and accidents are reported and are followed up correctly to minimize and manage risk and attend investigations where required, ensuring that the Occupational Health and Safety Act is complied with at all times.
  • Complete the daily investigation and weekly reporting of downtime events and the diagnosis of root causes, to assist in providing permanent rectification of defects within the plants, and identify key business risks.
  • Conduct investigations through the application of a structured process such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA), failure mode & effect analysis (FMEA), to develop action plans to increase Mean Time between Failures (MTBF) and reduce Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).
  • Coordinate plant equipment improvement trials, including technical input, tracking and reporting to ensure alignment of all trial work using the KCGM Management of Change procedure.
  • Review criticality analysis to ensure plant events are documented, tracked are prioritized through risk review.
  • Identify the plant bottlenecks and facilitate the improvements for reducing unit costs.
  • Collaborate with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to identify and adopt technologies and practices that will improve equipment performance and reliability.
  • Prepare engineering reports to meet KCGM requirements. In addition, review KCGM engineering specifications and update as required.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Three (3) years trade experience in the reliability sector – mineral processing environment or similar.
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) with relevant equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in reading electrical drawings.
  • Advanced computer literacy, in particular all aspects of Microsoft Office Suite and Visual Basic tools for data analysis.
  • Sound analytical skills and the ability to think laterally.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills enabling liaison at all levels of the organisation.
  • Ability to diagnose problems and identify potential solutions by thinking outside of the box delivering alternative outcomes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels with excellent presentation skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Must reside within the Goldfields region.
  • National Police Clearance within twelve (12) months of age
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with the Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations
  • Familiarity with relevant Australian Standards, and the Cyanide Code

Dispatch Supervisor

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking an experienced Dispatch Supervisor to join the Open Pit Mining Department at the Superpit in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

In this role you will efficiently direct and monitor Load and Haul activities in the Fimiston Open Pit and surrounding waste dumps to ensure that production targets are achieved in a timely and safe manner within the guidelines of statutory requirements and KCGM standards.

Some Key Accountabilities:

  • Monitoring Dispatch to ensure that people and equipment are optimally utilised to achieve daily targets whilst also ensuring that mining areas and activities are set up for the following crew to enable achievement of their shift targets
  • Monitoring sequence of mining activities and as required liaising with Geology, Drill and Blast and Crusher, to ensure ore is being hauled and stockpiled as scheduled and to KCGM Standards to achieve set daily production targets
  • Ensuring daily reporting of significant changes to any process or activity in Load and Haul and of any issues from other areas that may affect movement of tonnes so the Shift Supervisor is appropriately informed and can action changes if required.
  • Informing the relevant Supervisors of performance issues and overall performance and training needs of load and haul employees to enable performance management, identification of developmental and training opportunities and conducting of performance reviews to maintain and improve performance and to drive a positive workplace culture that reflects KCGM’s Core Values.
  • Facilitate and lead effective pre-start meetings by providing clear and relevant information, including effective participation in handovers with outgoing and incoming peers
  • Delivery on 12-hour plan and contribution towards 24-hour plan
  • Engage crew members in effective problem solving, to help identify opportunities
  • Monitor leave taken by the crew and manage requests in accordance with the direction set by the Superintendent
  • Team effectiveness of crew (i.e. managing interpersonal dynamics within crew, and ensuring crew interacts effectively with other crews and business partners)
  • Maintain and operating within the Operational Strategy (Shovel Usage, Dump Usage, Trucking Usage)
  • Maintenance Veto Rights – the ability to say no to schedule maintenance for equipment based on production requirements
  • OEM Monitoring compliance to Maintain Fleet

    REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • A minimum of five (5) years experience including operation of machinery in an open pit mining or quarry environment.
  • Strong understanding of mining sequence process and activities.
  • Dispatching experience.
  • Experience in performance management of team members enhancing team self esteem with the ability to coach, mentor and influence others
  • Must reside in the Goldfields region
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence

Preferred

External Relations Advisor

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking an experienced External Relations Advisor to join the Services Department at the Superpit operation in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

We have two positions available at this time;

One being on a Full Time basis, the other being a 6 month Fixed Term – both residential positions would be on a 5:2/4:3 roster, working 9.5 hour days.

Reporting to the External Relations Superintendent, this role is responsible for supporting external communications and community activities to assist building and maintaining positive relationships between KCGM, its employees, local and indigenous communities and government agencies.

Key accountabilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the Sustainability and External Relations Department’s Strategic Plan ensuring internal and external message direction is aligned with operational and strategic requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to develop communications plans and issues management strategies and to provide timely advice and consistent messaging to KCGM’s stakeholders.
  • Manage the Public Information Line (PIL) system, and KCGM’s grievance and complaints procedure, including receiving and responding to enquiries from the general public.
  • Coordinate and administer the KCGM Community Investment Programme, including identification of potential investment opportunities and regular reporting to management.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with media, government regulatory agencies, industry bodies and community groups ensuring a positive company profile.
  • Coordinate and contribute to all external publications, social media and the KCGM Website, ensuring currency and accuracy of all content.
  • Develop and participate in strategies to maintain relationships with the local indigenous communities that promote and facilitate the intent of the KCGM Diversity and Inclusion Plan.
  • Develop media releases, advertising and marketing material, ensuring all communications are in line with the current KCGM’s objectives and strategic plan.
  • Assist in managing the KCGM brand ensuring presentation and activities provide safe and positive interactions with the community and are aligned with the site strategic plan.
  • Contribute to the regular review of the KCGM Standards for External Relations, ensuring site activities are aligned with the standards.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • A tertiary qualification in Community/Public Relations, Media, Communications or similar discipline or significant relevant experience to an equivalent level.
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in a Community or Public Relations role.
  • Demonstrated advanced communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous experience in media liaison and regulatory relationship management.
  • Computer literacy in desktop publishing and office suite.
  • Must reside within the Goldfields region.
  • National Police Clearance within twelve (12) months

Underground Miner 1 - Jumbo, Bogger, Trucks, Charge Up, Service Crew

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking experienced underground all rounders to join the Mining Mt Charlotte Department at the Superpit operation in Kalgoorlie.

KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

This is a residential role based on a 7 Dayshift, 7 Off, 7 Nightshift, 7 Off roster, working 12 hour shifts.

This position will see you operating a variety of mobile plant and machinery over several different areas underground, for example truck, nipper, service crew, charge up, to bogger and jumbo, establishing and maintaining underground services, as well as provide generic labouring assistance to ensure production targets are achieved safely and efficiently.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Minimum seven (7) years experience in an underground Mining environment
  • Minimum five (5) years operating Jumbos, Boggers and Charge Up
  • Experience operating Underground Trucks and nippering, plus service crew
  • Current Dangerous Goods Security Card
  • WA Shotfirers Permit
  • Strong safety focus and excellent work ethic
  • Western Australian Underground Supervisors Certificate of competency highly regarded
  • Must reside locally within the Goldfields region
  • National Police Clearance (valid within the last 12 months)
  • Current unencumbered Western Australian “MR” or above Class Drivers Licence.

Underground Miner 2 - Loader

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking experienced underground bogger operator to join the Mining Mt Charlotte Department at the Superpit operation in Kalgoorlie.

KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

This is a residential role based on a 5:2 Dayshift, 4:3 Nightshift roster, working 10 hour shifts.

This residential position will see you operating load and haul vehicles of the underground production fleet in a safe and efficient manner and assisting with other underground work where required and qualified to ensure targets outlined in the underground mining schedule are achieved.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Operate Caterpillar 2900 and 1700 boggers in a safe and effective manner in a variety of settings, including stope draw points, development headings and stockpiles to achieve production and development targets outlined in the underground mining schedule.
  • Load and fire blast holes in accordance with the production plan in order for Production personnel to commence scheduled tasks on time and in ongoing shifts.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and standard operating procedures in relation to designing, charging and firing of underground blasts.
  • Establish, maintain and relocate underground services, including, but not limited to ventilation, air and water, to ensure the establishment and maintenance of a safe work environment.
  • Provide coverage for a variety of mobile plant, including, but not limited to CAT/Elphinstone 2900 and 1700 Loaders, CAT Integrated Toolcarriers, Atlas Copco H1357 Simba Long Hole & M2D/352 Twin Boom Jumbos, CAT 12G Grader, and Atlas Copco MT5010 Trucks to ensure production targets are attained safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain and develop underground roads to ensure road surfaces are suitable for operation of light vehicles and mobile plant.
  • Assist with the safe and effective charge-up of stope and development headings; and re-entry activities when required to ensure underground mining schedule is adhered to.
  • Provide relief coverage on various mobile plant or service crew, as dictated by operational requirements, to ensure ongoing attainment of production targets.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Minimum two (2) years experience operating Boggers – bogging development headings and clean ups
  • Additional demonstrated experience with Charge Up, Service Crew duties and other underground roles
  • Demonstrated ability in assessing road conditions and performing necessary maintenance
  • Ability to distinguish between rock material types
  • Ability to efficiently operate a variety of mobile plant equipment in various settings
  • Sound leadership, training and coaching skills
  • Current Dangerous Goods Security Card
  • Current tickets of competency for underground machinery and equipment; Bogger, Integrated Tool Carrier, and Truck

Underground Miner 3 - Service Crew

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking experienced Service Crew for the Mt Charlotte underground operation in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

This is a residential role on a 5:2 dayshift/4:3 nightshift roster, working 10 hour shifts.

This key position will establish and maintain underground services, as well as provide generic labouring and operating assistance to ensure production targets are achieved safely and efficiently.

Key tasks will include, but not limited to:

  • Establish, maintain and relocate underground services, including, but not limited to ventilation, air and water, to ensure the establishment and maintenance of a safe work environment.
  • Perform maintenance on underground drainage systems to ensure consistent water flow to designated pump stations.
  • Provide coverage for a variety of mobile plant, including, but not limited to CAT/Elphinstone 2900 and 1700 Loaders, CAT Integrated Toolcarriers, Atlas Copco H1357 Simba Long Hole & M2D/352 Twin Boom Jumbos, CAT 12G Grader, and Atlas Copco MT5010 Trucks to ensure production targets are attained safely and efficiently.
  • Undertake scaling as required in order to reduce rock fall hazards.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Minimum five (5) years underground experience, two of which have required Service Crew duties.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience operating an Integrated Tool Carrier
  • Minimum two (2) years experience operating a Bogger
  • Valid Integrated Tool Carrier Ticket
  • Valid Dangerous Goods Security Card
  • Valid Western Australian Shotfirers Ticket
  • Unencumbered Western Australian C Class Driver’s Licence – Manual
  • Must reside within the Goldfields region, or willing to relocate
  • National Police Clearance – valid within the last twelve (12) months

Preferred

  • Experience operating the Atlas Copco H1357 Simba Long Hole Drill, M2D/352 Twin Boom Jumbos, 12G CAT Grader and MT5010 Trucks.

Project Exploration Geologist

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking a Project Exploration Geologist to join the Technical Services & Projects Department at the Superpit and Mt Charlotte Operations in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

Working a residential, family friendly roster (5:2/4:3), the Project Exploration Geologist is responsible for designing and supervising the execution and interpretation of exploration programs and projects that add value to existing resources, locating the next viable ore bodies, and extending the KCGM Life of Mine.

Key accountabilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the elimination of injuries in the workplace and the maintenance of KCGM’s “Social License to Operate”.
  • Provide leadership through the coaching and mentoring of Exploration Geologists and Exploration Geotechnicians and promote a positive workplace culture that reflects KCGM’s Core Values.
  • Take accountability for the design of and adherence to Work Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures for common work tasks undertaken by the Exploration team.
  • Design and supervise the execution of drilling programs and other exploration projects. Oversee data quality control and interpretation and provide recommendations for future work programs on the basis of results.
  • Supervise contractors, demanding adherence to all relevant environmental, safety and security measures.
  • Contribute to geological core logging and the instruction of Exploration Geotechnicians in sample preparation in accordance with current Standard Operation Procedures.
  • Liaise as necessary with the contracted assay laboratories to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of assay results.
  • Ensure Departmental compliance with statutory acts, regulations and consent conditions.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience as an Exploration Geologist.
  • Tertiary qualification in Geology.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • Experience with ArcGIS, Vulcan, Leapfrog and ioGAS software or equivalent programs.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
  • Must reside in the Goldfields region.
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

Preferred

  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Mine Geologist.
  • Experience in Achaean gold systems.
  • Honors or Master’s Degree in Geology

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking Geologists to join the Technical Services & Projects Department at the Superpit and Mt Charlotte Operations in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

  • Delivering the optimal ore grade to the Mineral Processing Plant, through accurate identification of mineralisation, delineation of ore blocks, and supervision of extraction to minimise dilution.
  • Conducting exploration which could lead to discovering viable ore bodies which will increase KCGM’s Life Of Mine.
  • Scheduling, supervision of RC drilling programs, modelling of the resulting data, core logging and data entry, and providing technical support to the operational team during mining.

Senior Exploration Geologist

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking a Senior Exploration Geologist to join the Technical Services & Projects Department at the Superpit operation in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

This is a residential role on a 5:2/4:3 roster.

This position is expected to manage the Exploration team and Exploration programs, add value to existing resources, participate in the identification of the next viable ore bodies, and to extend the KCGM Life of Mine (LOM). Focus upon targeting, program design and execution of exploration projects on time and within budget.

Key accountabilities may involve:

  • Ensure all geological data is captured accurately and efficiently. Data needs to be stored in the KCGM database.
  • Manage the administrative components of the execution of drill programs.
  • Ensure QAQC of assay data and downhole surveys (and associated reports) is completed and processes align with KCGM standards.
  • Manage the development of exploration geological models that conform to the requirements of the Joint Venture Owners’ project pipeline definitions, and in accordance with Exploration plans and schedules. Lead the interpretation of exploration information as it is generated.
  • Report regularly to the Exploration Superintendent on any and all geological, project execution, technical, safety and environmental matters pertaining to project development.
  • Management of Business Partner relationships (e.g. drilling, earthworks, water / rock suppliers), and ensure all Business Partners are complying with KCGM policies, procedures and standards at all times.
  • Lead the continuous improvement of the Exploration Management Operating System (MOS), to ensure that clearly defined processes are functional and maintained to manage risks and opportunities, and that the exploration information is collected, recorded and organized accurately to enable results to be further refined and potential future drill targets to be identified.
  • Actively manage the relationship between Exploration and all KCGM functional areas that are affected directly or indirectly by exploration activities (e.g. Environmental and Social Responsibility). Lead and continually seek to improve these cross-functional relationships through the Exploration MOS.
  • Under the guidance of the Senior Technical Geologist, participation in the development of exploration target strategy and definition.
  • Assist the Exploration Superintendent in the preparation of annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and preparation of purchase and service orders commensurate with role.
  • Oversee and submit regular exploration reports (quarterly, monthly, weekly) to meet corporate and legal compliance requirements.
  • Actively participate in aspects of Tenement Management required to obtain government approval and permission for ground disturbance, and ensure that statutory exploration reporting requirements are adhered to.
  • Participate in the development of personal training strategies and undertake appropriate training modules.
  • Undertake safety investigations as directed to ensure that incidents and/or injuries are fully reviewed in a timely manner and corrective actions are identified and allocated appropriately.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • A minimum of six (6) years working in an exploration geology role.
  • Experience in contractor management.
  • Experience managing a small team of professionals.

  • A tertiary qualification (minimum degree level) in geology or a related discipline.

Senior Drilling Supervisor

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking a Senior Drilling Supervisor to join the Technical Services & Projects Department at the Superpit operation in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

This is a residential role on a 5:2/4:3 roster.

This role will be responsible in monitoring and advising the drilling Contractors to ensure that all drilling programs at KCGM are executed safely, with optimal productivity and in compliance with the requirements of Newmont’s Exploration Drilling Standard. Importantly, as a drilling subject matter expert, the Senior Drilling Supervisor provides guidance and mentorship to the Geology team in the fields of drill-related planning, safety, plod and invoice auditing and productivity optimisation.

Key accountabilities may involve:

  • Advise on, develop and implement effective safety policy for all drilling-related activities undertaken on site.
  • Conduct regular field-based safety interactions and critical control verifications with drilling contractors ensuring that improvement opportunities are captured in Cintellate with appropriate actions to be tracked, verified and closed out.
  • Develop, implement and champion an audit regime covering procedure and equipment to ensure that KCGM is at all times compliant with the Newmont Exploration Drilling Standard.
  • Develop and maintain the necessary registers for Fatality Risk Management and the Exploration Drilling Standard requirements.
  • Be intimately involved in the verification of drill plods and invoices for validity against the program executed and the active drill contracts.
  • Analyze data captured in DrillCost to identify opportunities for improvement in driller performance, minimization of standby and directional drilling time and optimisation of maintenance schedules. Establish and communicate benchmarks for performance and support the development and implementation of improvement projects.
  • Participate in drilling Contractor toolbox meetings and Geology safety meetings to ensure that all relevant successes and opportunities for improvement are effectively communicated, and that feedback from the Contractor is registered and actioned upon where necessary.
  • Participate in regular contract review meetings with drilling Contractors on behalf of KCGM to ensure that communication regarding drill program-related issues are effectively conveyed and received.
  • Oversee the mobilization and demobilization of drill Contractor equipment and teams, including any necessary change management, to ensure that the processes are completed safely, smoothly and in accordance with KCGM policy.
  • Assume an advisory role as a subject matter expert in all safety investigations regarding incidents/injuries associated with the drilling programs.
  • Liaise closely with colleagues from elsewhere in the Company and industry to ensure that lessons are captured and issues are shared and escalated to management where appropriate.
  • Assess drilling Contractor equipment maintenance plans for content, validity and achievability.
  • Develop and implement a mentoring program for KCGM Geologists on all of the above accountabilities to improve the drilling knowledgebase of the team and optimise future drilling programs from the planning stage through all aspects of program execution.

Underground Senior Drill and Blast Engineer

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking an experienced Underground Senior Drill and Blast Engineer for the Mining – Underground Department for the Superpit. This is a residential role on a 5/2:4/3 roster.

KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

The successful candidate will oversee planning and coordination of all underground (UG) operational and technical production activities to ensure resource availability is maximized, and to achieve the budget plan in a cost effective, timely and safe manner.

Key accountabilities may include:

  • Hold appointed Underground Manager ticket as a Deputy to the Underground Superintendent when required.
  • Act as Engineering Superintendent when required to lead the technical group and support the UGM
  • Accountable for generation of comprehensive stope note documents for the future stopes, with the focus to deliver reviewed stope mining plans prior to scheduled production activities for that stope.
  • Generate and complete stope reconciliation and analysis to determine the stope performance and highlight areas of risk and opportunities in future stopes.
  • Accountability for generation of detailed weekly plan that ensure weekly development, production, ancillary and maintenance activities are aligned to the medium term plan and support the long term strategy for the mine.
  • Responsible for weekly reporting of operational performance and high level analysis of areas that are a risk or opportunity to the business. Supporting and liaising with the Underground Manager to ensure the commentary reported through the business is accurate and succinct.
  • Accountability to ensure blast vibration monitoring is compliant with the MTC environment agreement and all underground stope blasts adhere to the statutory requirements of site. Responsible for proactive designs to reduce and mitigate environmental impact from blast vibration.
  • Proactively encourage reporting of all incidents and accidents, review and monitor all incident and accident reports of relevant area ensuring investigations and follow up actions are correctly implemented and completed to ensure that the Occupational Health and Safety Act is complied with at all times.
  • Contribute and support the Underground Manager in facilitating Department of Mines, Industry, Regulation and Safety visits, inspections and investigations.
  • Be involved and lead a Full Potential (operational improvement) Projects to reduce operational cost or improve productivity
  • Contribute and liaise with the Senior Planning and Projects Engineer to generate detailed and accurate physical and cost Forecasts for the operation. Provide key production productivity information for building accurate operational budgets.
  • Provide leadership through management of coaching, mentoring and developmental activities to production, drill and blast engineers, graduates and other junior technical staff members driving a positive workplace culture that reflects KCGM’s Values.
  • Oversee generation of operational work plans; job hazard analysis and team based risk assessments complimentary to works.
  • Contribute to the development of strategic plans, LOM contributions and operating/capital/manpower budgets to ensure continual development of Mt Charlotte and an increase in production efficiency.
  • Accountable for effective management of specific production contractors to support the operation and the productivity output
  • Coordinate cross functional planning and information sharing with Geology and Geotechnical specialist in the Mt Charlotte team.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Bachelor of Mining Engineering or other relevant discipline and/or experience (reviewed on a case by case nature).
  • Minimum of 6 years mining experience, with at least a minimum of 3 years in an underground environment.
  • Minimum one year at a senior level in a similarly sized operation or at a supervisory level within a larger operation, with exposure to leading and coaching a team in safe production in hard rock mining
  • The ability to use integrated management systems, spreadsheet applications, word processing, high level mine planning / production software including Vulcan, Deswik and presentation programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose problems and identify potential solutions by thinking out side of the box delivering alternative outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate representatives of varying disciplines towards achieving a common objective.
  • Must reside in the Goldfields region, or willing to be relocated.

Underground Drill & Blast Engineer

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking a Drill & Blast Engineer to join the Underground Mining team at Mt Charlotte in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

In this residential role, you will generate, schedule and implement short term Drilling, Blasting and ancillary mine plans to achieve the operational plan in a safe and cost effective manner. This involves coordinating production activities with Underground Mine Foreman to safely achieve production plans, and providing technical support to Underground Supervisors and crew members.

The role also includes daily and weekly data management for reporting purposes and stocktake management of production drill and blast consumables to ensure the operation is provided with the tools and resources to maintain the safe underground production.

The Underground Drill & Blast Engineer position is on a 5:2 / 4:3 roster.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Develop Drill and Blast plans to ensure available drilled and blasted stocks are maintained.
  • Assist with the generation of the Two Weekly Plan and provide key drilling and blasting information to Planning engineer to ensure it aligns with rolling 12 weekly plan. Ensure the schedule effectively utilises production resources and maintains ore production to meet daily and weekly production targets.
  • Successfully plan, monitor and manage the drilled and developed stocks to maintain sufficient stocks ahead of the mining plan.
  • Conduct drill consumables and explosive products stocks are maintained to meet operational requirements and ensure legislative requirements are met for explosive management.
  • Maintain and manage drill and blast contractors that support the underground production activities. Ensure conduct and management of contractors in to the KCGM standard.
  • Develop and execute work plans and instructions for minor projects and ancillary service works that support the production activities of the mine to ensure safe and efficient production of stopes.
  • Liaise with the Senior Production Engineer to ensure monthly targets are being achieved through daily and weekly plans. Conduct opportune mine projects as directed by Senior Technical Team.
  • Undertake generation of Drill and Blast design component of the pre-production mining Stope Note and ensure the correct plans are completed before production activity commences.
  • Assist the Ventilation Officer when required with Mine Ventilation planning, surveys and ventilation circuit generation and modification plans.
  • Co-ordinate production activities with Underground Mine Foreman to safely achieve production plans.
  • Provide technical support to Underground Supervisors and underground crew members when required, to assist in providing solutions to production activity challenges.
  • Prepare Daily and Weekly reports as required
  • Mining activities data base management with daily data entry for production and development activities
  • Support and train Graduate Mining Engineers

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a similar underground position
  • Bachelor of Mining or Engineering (Mining)
  • Advanced level in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience in mine design software, however, Vulcan is the preferred software package

Production Scheduler

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking an experienced Production Scheduler for the Mining Open Pits Department at the Superpit. This is a residential role on a 8/6 roster, working 12 hour day shifts.

KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

The successful candidate will provide technical and scheduling support to Mining Operations to achieve the daily, monthly & annual Mine Plan. This role is expected to add value through identifying opportunities and developing new methodologies to achieve above target results. The role’s purpose is to coordinate the Planning activities with other stakeholders and ensure the mine plan is executed in a timely and safe manner within the guidelines of statutory requirements and KCGM standards.

Key accountabilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Influences a broad range of stakeholders to ensure the effective and efficient equipment utilization which is critical to the achievement of the Mining Operations and Maintenance Targets. This is achieved by working closely with the Open Pit Supervisors, Planning Engineers and Mobile Maintenance Supervisors.
  • Contribute to the development of the fortnightly mine schedule in order to meet changing operational circumstances and requirements
  • Support execution of the short to medium (< 3 months) mine plans and contribute to long term mine plans
  • Where mining plan variances are identified, create and implement appropriate mitigation strategies. Contribute to the delivery of the monthly ore and waste targets.
  • Ability to problem solve within broadly defined policies and objectives is essential
  • Ability to develop new methodologies to contribute to the mining operation team goals
  • Engaging peers and stakeholders in effective problem solving and planning
  • Utilizing the appropriate systems to ensure processes are in place and are operating effectively in all areas of open pit mining operations.
  • Liaise with Geotechnical Engineering team to ensure wall scaling and clean-ups completed to a high standard and in a timely manner
  • Report relevant production & planning metrics to the Mine Operations Superintendent

  • A minimum of five (5) years experience including operation of machinery in an open pit mining or quarry environment.

Mine Geologist

THE ROLE

Working a residential, family friendly roster (9:5), the Mine Geologist is responsible for delivering the optimal ore grade to the Mineral Processing Plant, through accurate identification of mineralisation, delineation of ore blocks, and supervision of extraction to minimize dilution.   • Design, schedule and oversee Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling programs to ensure provision of timely and accurate grade control data for analysis.
  • Undertake analysis, interpretation and modelling of data, including drill samples, resource definition plans and voids in order to accurately locate ore bodies and individual probe locations for the subsequent redevelopment and implementation of dig plans. As part of this process, examine Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) data and follow up on any issues with the laboratory in order to validate results used in estimation.
  • Coordinate and assist in the ore mark-up process to ensure easy identification of ore and waste blocks. In addition, provide support and training to Graduate Geologists to assist their development to becoming active members of the Grade Control team.
  • Design, implement and mark out access ways for production equipment to access blasted zones.
  • Monitor and adjust, via ore spotting, the ore extraction process to ensure the dig plan is correctly followed and minimise the risk of ore loss and ore dilution.
  • Coordinate the planning, implementation and monitoring of sample schedules to ensure accurate data is available for analysis.
  • Prepare weekly reports by collecting mining data to identify mining physicals and attainment to plan.
  • Prepare weekly grade control drilling and mining schedules with supervision from the Senior Mine Geologist.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Tertiary qualification in Geology
  • Two (2) years’ experience in an Open Pit mining environment
  • One (1) years’ experience in Grade Control
  • Underground experience is desired but not essential.
  • Experience with 3D mining software, eg Vulcan
  • Developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation
  • Sound problem solving ability
  • National Police Clearance – valid within the last twelve (12) months
  • Must reside locally in the Goldfields region, or willing to relocate
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian Manual “C” Class Drivers Licence
  • Light Rigid or Heavy Rigid licence is preferred, or ability to obtain if successful
