Underground Drill and Blast Engineer

Underground Drill and Blast Engineer

Northern Star Resources is seeking an experienced and dynamic Underground Drill and Blast Engineer to be part of the Mt Charlotte Technical team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for generating, scheduling and implementing short term Drilling, Blasting and Ancillary mine plans to achieve the operational plan in a safe and cost effective manner. This involves coordinating production activities with the Underground Production Superintendent to safely achieve production plans, and providing technical support to Underground Supervisors and crew members.

The role takes on a variety of essential tasks, including (but not limited to) daily and weekly data management for reporting purposes and stock take management of production drill and blast consumables to ensure the operation is provided with the tools and resources to maintain the safe underground production.

This is a residential role on an 8:6 roster, working 12 hour day shifts.

Requirements

The successful incumbent will possess the following essential criteria;

  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a similar underground position
  • Bachelor Degree of Engineering (Mining only)
  • Advanced level in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience in mine design software, however, Vulcan is the preferred software package
  • Experience in a production engineering related role with exposure to underground ventilation
  • Western Australian Underground Supervisors Certificate of competency, or the ability to attain the certificate, preferred
  • Dangerous Goods Security Card or proof of application, preferred
  • Must reside in the Goldfields, or be willing to relocate to the Goldfields region for this residential role
  • National Police Clearance – valid within the last twelve (12) months
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

Northern Star Resources is currently seeking an experienced Welding and Fabrication Supervisor for the Mining Open Pits Department at the Superpit.

Set on a 5/2:4/3 roster, this residential position will manage the boilermaking and fabrication maintenance across the KCGM’s open pit mobile fleet in order to meet equipment availability, reliability and life cycle requirements in a safe, timely, environmentally responsible manner and within budget.

Key accountabilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage and coordinate the fleet Boilermaker maintenance to deliver agreed safety targets, availability and cost.
  • Develop and manage the fleet maintenance strategy for the mobile equipment to meet the Life Of Mine
  • Manage the fleet Boilermaker maintenance to ensure agreed KPIs, schedules and work quality are all met and are in the best interests of KCGM. Ensure all variances to the agreed KPIs have plans in place to address them.
  • Liaise with maintenance supervisors/ Superintendent on all matters affecting equipment availability, reliability and condition in order to improve communication and education, secure the customers support for the asset management program, and minimize equipment damage in order to maximize the availability and life of the equipment.
  • Work with the business partners to identify and complete projects to improve the equipment availability, reliability and cost.
  • Coordinate and facilitate new and trial development programs in the department, to ensure an environment of continuous improvement on an ongoing basis.
  • Oversee equipment re-build programs relating to the mobile fleet to ensure a high quality of work and compliance to the budget and schedule.
  • Provide expert technical advice and support for the selection of new machines and equipment to ensure that production targets can be achieved.

  • Australian-recognized Boilermaker or Welding Fabrication trade qualification.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ practical experience, including at least three (3) years in a supervisor role.
  • Excellent computer skills in Word, Excel and Project, and experience in the use of modern maintenance databases.
  • Experience leading teams, including the capacity to motivate, mentor and influence others.
  • Experience in budgeting, financial analysis and cost management.
  • Experience within a mining or heavy industrial environment.
  • Experience in planning and scheduling.
  • Must reside within the Goldfields region.
  • National Police Clearance within twelve (12) months of age
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

  • Experience in managing diverse teams.
  • Sound product knowledge of similar equipment.

Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Open PIt

Senior Geotechnical Engineer – Open Pit

Due to our exciting growth, Northern Star Resources now has a rewarding opportunity for an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer, to supervise the delivery of effective and safe production related Open Pit Geotechnical services, ensuring the safe achievement of budget and Life of Mine (LOM) targets, at our world-class KCGM Operation – the Superpit.

Key duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to;

  • Supervise a team of Geotechnical Engineers and Technicians to ensure that production-related Geotechnical duties are executed in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.
  • Assist and supervise Geotechnical project Engineers to deliver project outcomes in the time frames required.
  • Oversee the coordination and execution of the slope and excavation management program, in accordance with the Ground Control Management Plan, to ensure the identification of and neutralisation of hazards.
  • Assist the Geotechnical Superintendent in ensuring the delivery of relevant training, coaching, positive mentorship, and other on-the-job support to the Geotechnical Department to ensure ongoing professional development and the creation and maintenance of appropriate succession pools.
  • Prepare Statutory and Ownership reports as required to ensure the provision of accurate Geotechnical data for subsequent review.
  • Oversee operational safety from a Geotechnical perspective, in order to meet safety and corporate compliance.

Essential

  • A minimum five (5) years’ experience in a Geotechnical role within multiple operations, with at least two (2) being in an Open Pit operation.
  • A tertiary qualification (minimum degree level) in Mine Engineering / Geology with appropriate Geotechnical experience.
  • A minimum two (2) years’ experience in a Geotechnical supervisory role.
  • Experience with Vulcan and Rocscience software packages.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and knowledge of current Geotechnical monitoring techniques for open pit or underground mines as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated experience in Geotechnical open pit and/or underground ground support.
  • Experience with risk assessment of Geotechnical hazards.
  • Proven experience in Geotechnical design (wedge, planar and rotational analyses for slopes and/or stress modelling, design chart application for underground design).
  • Ability to think strategically and commercially, approach solutions creatively and consider organisation-wide impacts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven organisational and time management skills.
  • Relevant Professional Association membership.
  • Ability to lead a team in a positive and pro-active manner, supporting and mentoring future growth and development of team members.
  • Must reside locally in the Goldfields region, or willing to relocate for our residential roles.
  • National Police Clearance (valid within the last 12 months).
  • Current, unencumbered Western Australia “C” Class, Manual Drivers License.

Preferred

  • Demonstrated experience in pit wall blasting techniques and optimisation.
  • Experience in data collection methods including pit face/ heading mapping, photogrammetry, diamond drilling and rock testing.
  • Post-graduate studies in Geotechnical Engineering, e.g. Rock Mechanics.

Northern Star has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Project Engineer (Electrical) to join our Processing Department at our world-class KCGM Operation. This opportunity is offered as residential in the Goldfields.

This role will be responsible for the end to end execution and management of multidisciplinary projects, from initial concept development and feasibility analysis, through to construction, commissioning and final handover. In addition, you will be expected to ensure all design work conforms to relevant statutory standards and specifications through engaging relevant external or internal technical and engineering specialists.

This role is responsible for direct supervision of projects, from initial construction, through commissioning and to final handover, ensuring all construction conforms to statutory standards and specifications.

Requirements 

Essential

  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a similar role within the resources sector.
  • Trade qualification, Diploma of Engineering, formal Project Management qualification.
  • S44 Appointed Person, S44 of the Mine Safety Inspection Act 1994 Training.
  • Proficiency in reading construction drawings; inclusive of mechanical, electrical and civil/structural drawings.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills enabling liaison at all levels of the organisation.
  • Ability to diagnose problems and identify potential solutions by thinking outside of the box delivering alternative outcomes.
  • Intermediate proficiency in report writing, Microsoft suite and the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Driver’s Licence.
  • Passionate about safety, teamwork, honesty, integrity and results driven.
  • Familiarity with relevant Australian Standards, Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations (MSIR).
