Underground Drill & Blast Engineer

THE ROLE

In this role, you will generate, schedule and implement short term Drilling, Blasting and ancillary mine plans to achieve the operational plan in a safe and cost effective manner. This involves coordinating production activities with Underground Mine Foreman to safely achieve production plans, and providing technical support to Underground Supervisors and crew members.

The role also includes daily and weekly data management for reporting purposes and stock take management of production drill and blast consumables to ensure the operation is provided with the tools and resources to maintain the safe underground production.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a similar underground position
  • Bachelor of Mining or Engineering (Mining)
  • Advanced level in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience in mine design software, however, Vulcan is the preferred software package
  • Experience in a production engineering related role with exposure to underground ventilation
  • Western Australian Underground Supervisors Certificate of competency, or the ability to attain the certificate, preferred
  • Dangerous Goods Security Card or proof of application, preferred
  • Must reside in the Goldfields, or be willing to relocate to the region
  • National Police Clearance – valid within the last twelve (12) months
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

Jumbo Operator - Mt Charlotte

THE ROLE

Working at KCGM’s Mt Charlotte underground mine, this residential position will see you drilling blast holes and installation of ground support for underground tunneling to ensure underground production targets are attained or exceeded in a safe and effective manner.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Operate a variety of mobile and fixed plant equipment including but not limited to, CAT/Elphinstone 2900 and 1700 Loaders, CAT 12G Grader, CAT Integrated Tool carriers, Atlas Copco H1357 Simba Long Hole Drill & M2D/352 Twin Boom Jumbos, and Atlas Copco MT5010 Trucks, in a safe and effective manner to achieve production/development targets outlined in the mining schedule.
  • Perform safe and effective charge-up of development headings to achieve development targets in accordance with the mining schedule.
  • Establish, maintain and relocate development service crew workings, including but not limited to, ventilation, air and water systems to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Undertake development works, including but not limited to, re-entry, watering down, clean up scratching, bolts and mesh and clean up scratching, to ensure a safe underground work environment.
  • Provide relief coverage on various mobile plant, as dictated by operational requirements, to ensure ongoing attainment of production targets.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Minimum five (5) years all-round underground operating experience
  • Minimum two (2) years production experience as a Jumbo Operator
  • Minimum two (2) years production experience as a Bogger Operator
  • Experience in production stope charge up
  • Current West Australian Shotfirers’ Permit
  • Current West Australian Dangerous Goods Security Card
  • Hold Tickets for the following underground equipment: Bogger, Jumbo, IT, Grader, Drill, Charge Kettles and Truck
  • Must reside in the Goldfields region, or willing to relocate
  • National Police Clearance – valid within twelve (12) months

Load & Haul Superintendent

THE ROLE

To manage and provide leadership to the Open Pit Production (Load and Haul) Team to ensure that all targets are safely achieved in a coordinated, cost effective and timely manner.

Key Accountabilities include:

  • Ensure that all incidents and accidents are reported and are followed on to minimize and manage risk. Act in a leadership role and work cross-functional with site operational and safety representatives to ensure that all Open Pit Operational investigations, incident and accident reports are completed in a timely fashion, and ensure that follow up actions are correctly implemented and completed as soon as practicable. Ensure that the Occupational Health and Safety Act is complied with at all times. Participate in KCGM internal audits.
  • Ensure all reasonable steps are taken to assist in identifying and providing an injured employee with suitable duties whilst they are on a return to work plan.
  • Manage crew training and qualifications, ensuring that crews have bench strength and personnel trained to operate more than one piece of equipment in order to maintain a minimum “flexibility” to react to changing conditions in the short term and enable hot seating.
  • Provide leadership through coaching, mentoring and developmental activities to members of the open pits Load and Haul Leadership Team and Open Pit Contractors driving a positive workplace culture that reflects KCGM’s Core Values and the Code of Conduct.
  • Ensure that the all employee relations and performance management issues are handled consistently and that all KCGM policies and procedures are complied with at all times to assist in driving a positive workplace culture that reflects KCGM’s Code of Conduct.
  • Serve for Mining Manager in their absence
  • Serve for Senior Production Engineer in their absence.
  • Manage leave scheduling and work coverage requirements for senior staff in department.
  • Oversee in-pit Contractors, manage monthly invoice quantities and mediate disputes.
  • Review and report daily, weekly and monthly on Load and Haul performance to the Mine Manager to ensure that the General Manager, Joint Venture representatives and other key internal stakeholders are appropriately informed.
  • Ensure all production teams are performing optimally and that the maintenance of stockpiles and achievement of total material movement is achieved according to the Mine Plan in a coordinated, cost effective, timely and safe manner.
  • Assist in the coordination of the Mobile Equipment Maintenance schedules by ensuring equipment is released as per the schedule to allow for fleet availability targets to be maximized enabling achievement of planned production targets.
  • Manage Load and Haul resource planning, training and development of mobile equipment operators to ensure sufficient skilled operators are available to meet planned utilization targets.
  • Identify risks and opportunities and develop strategies to improve performance, reduce risk and cost.
  • Prepare and review the Mine Production budgets and forecasts to ensure expenditure is within budget and meets corporate compliance.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Minimum of ten (10) years open pits hard rock mining experience, including at least eight (8) years at a senior leadership level within a similarly sized operation or middle management in a smaller sized operation.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose problems and identify potential solutions by strategically thinking.
  • Excellent understanding of mining law and industrial relations.
  • Experience in performance management of team members enhancing team self esteem using ability to coach, mentor and influence others and ability to build a strong performing team.
  • Experience in budgeting, financial analysis, cost management and contract management.
  • Current unrestricted Quarry Managers Certificate of Competency.
  • Current unencumbered West Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.
  • Must reside within the Goldfields region, or be willing to be relocated.

Geotechnician - Exploration

THE ROLE

An exciting opportunity now exists to work alongside a dynamic team in the Mine Technical Services Department. This position will see you assisting in the collection and processing of geological samples to ensure the provision of timely and accurate data for analysis by Geologists.

Key Accountabilities include:

  • Process diamond drill core samples. The incumbent ensures the layout and orientation of the core samples is correct, ensuring the meters are correct, marked up and the recovery & quality (RQD) tests are completed. Samples are then prepared and sent to the laboratory for testing. The remaining core sample must be carefully stored and a record of all data collected must be tabulated. This ensures detailed accurate data is obtained for every core sample and its exact location, and associated data, can be determined at a later date when required.
  • Assist in regional drill programs, as required. This involves gridding, clearing, preparing samples and archiving samples as previously for the diamond core drilling process. In addition, rehabilitation of the accessed site also needs to be completed, to minimise damage to the environment.
  • Maintain the core yard facility. This includes ordering supplies, inspecting and maintaining all core yard equipment and maintaining a high level of housekeeping in the core shed and lay down area. In addition the sample archives, core pallets and chip trays need to be maintained in an orderly manner to ensure a safe and well organised working environment.
  • Support and assist the pit technicians in grade control if required, due to staff shortages to maintain production requirements.
  • Actively demonstrate, and lead by example, the operation of all environmental, safety and security measures for the protection of all staff, the environment, and the security of company assets and consumables.
  • Undertake safety investigations as directed to ensure that incidents and/or injuries are fully reviewed in a timely manner and corrective actions are identified and allocated appropriately.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Preferably two (2) years’ experience working in a similar role, such as core sampling
  • High Risk Fork Lift Licence
  • First Aid Certificate – valid within two (2) years
  • Intermediate level of computer literacy, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel
  • A strong commitment to safety and a continuous improvement culture
  • Reside locally within the Goldfields region
  • Current Unencumbered WA Medium Rigid “MR” or Heavy Rigid “HR licence

Tailings Dam Operator

THE ROLE

This role is responsible for ensuring Tailing Dams are operated and maintained in accordance with KCGM’s environmental and safety standards. This is a fantastic opportunity for candidates with previous tailings experience or some general operating experience wanting to take the next step with their career.

Key Accountabilities include:

  • Ensure that all incidents and accidents are reported and are followed up correctly to minimize and manage risk and oversee investigations where required, ensuring that the Occupational Health and Safety Act is complied with at all times.
  • Control the deposition of tailings in accordance with operating procedures, and meets all specifications
  • Maintain tailings freeboard levels to ensure water levels do not exceed specifications limits.
  • Complete decanting as required and meet all environmental requirements.
  • Complete tailings line decoupling and re-coupling associated with wall lifts to ensure they are maintained to adhere to operational and safety standards.
  • Maintain the condition of all roads, ramps and bunding to set safety standards, in the area around the Tailings Dam.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of one year working experience in an industrial/labour intensive working environment
  • Ability to work autonomously in a predominantly outdoors environment
  • High risk Work License highly regarded – Fork Lift, Backhoe, EWP
  • Attention to detail and observation skills
  • Good practical mechanical ability
  • Strong safety ethic
  • Must reside within the Goldfields region

Mine Geologist

THE ROLE

Working a residential, family friendly roster (9:5), the Mine Geologist is responsible for delivering the optimal ore grade to the Mineral Processing Plant, through accurate identification of mineralisation, delineation of ore blocks, and supervision of extraction to minimise dilution. This includes scheduling, supervision of RC drilling programs, modelling of the resulting data, and providing technical support to the operational team during mining.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Design, schedule and oversee Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling programs to ensure provision of timely and accurate grade control data for analysis.
  • Undertake analysis, interpretation and modelling of data, including drill samples, resource definition plans and voids in order to accurately locate ore bodies and individual probe locations for the subsequent redevelopment and implementation of dig plans. As part of this process, examine Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) data and follow up on any issues with the laboratory in order to validate results used in estimation.
  • Coordinate and assist in the ore mark-up process to ensure easy identification of ore and waste blocks. In addition, provide support and training to Graduate Geologists to assist their development to becoming active members of the Grade Control team.
  • Design, implement and mark out access ways for production equipment to access blasted zones.
  • Monitor and adjust, via ore spotting, the ore extraction process to ensure the dig plan is correctly followed and minimise the risk of ore loss and ore dilution.
  • Coordinate the planning, implementation and monitoring of sample schedules to ensure accurate data is available for analysis.
  • Prepare weekly reports by collecting mining data to identify mining physicals and attainment to plan.
  • Prepare weekly grade control drilling and mining schedules with supervision from the Senior Mine Geologist.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Tertiary qualification in Geology
  • Two (2) years’ experience in an Open Pit mining environment
  • One (1) years’ experience in Grade Control
  • Underground experience is desired but not essential.
  • Experience with 3D mining software, eg Vulcan
  • Developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation
  • Sound problem solving ability
  • National Police Clearance – valid within the last twelve (12) months
  • Must reside locally in the Goldfields region, or willing to relocate
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian Manual “C” Class Drivers Licence

Senior Integrity Engineer

THE ROLE

The Senior Integrity Engineer leads a team in the execution of civil, or Integrity projects associated with capital and non capital related projects from initial concept development and feasibility analysis, through to construction and close out. Ensure all design work is reviewed prior to rectification or construction, and that the integrity works and classified equipment, conforms to all statutory standards and specifications.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Civil & Structural)
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a similar role within the resources sector
  • Advanced computer literacy, in particular all aspects of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of structural analysis and design software e.g. Space GASS, Microstran, SAP 2000
  • Proficiency in reading mechanical and civil/structural drawings
  • Experience in performance management of team members to ensure a high performing team culture through coaching, mentoring and influencing

Mine Scheduling Engineer

THE ROLE

This residential position is responsible for coordinating the various stakeholders and developing the short term weekly mine schedule for Fimiston Open Pit operations to make sure all activities in the schedule are coordinated ensuring the weekly schedule is achievable and communicated.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Proactively encourage reporting of all incidents and accidents, review and monitor all incident and accident reports relevant to areas under influence. Ensure investigations and follow up actions are correctly implemented and completed to ensure that the Occupational Health and Safety Act is complied with at all times
  • Attend and chair planning and scheduling meetings with Mine Technical Services, Mine Production, Mine Operations, Mobile Maintenance and Mill Processing personnel and contribute to the achievement of production targets and continuous improvement activities.
  • The development and implementation of 24 hour production plans in line with operational targets.
  • The development and implementation of the fortnightly mine schedule in order to meet changing operational circumstances and requirements coordinate the input of off all the stakeholders contributing to the fortnightly mine schedule.
  • Develop short-term work instructions contributing to the achievement of daily and weekly Production targets.
  • Occasional pit design updates and design of pit floor roads and access point as a result of operational changes.
  • Develop and include in the weekly schedule the dumping strategy.
  • Providing guidance and input into the drill and blast and pit design processes.
  • Coordinate rehabilitation activities with the ESR Department.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a similar role
  • Proficient in the use of general mining software packages e.g.: Vulcan, Deswik
  • Proficient use of the Microsoft suite of software packages
  • Excellent personal organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands
  • Highly developed communication and influencing skills with the ability to liaise with all levels of the organisation
  • A tertiary qualification (minimum Bachelor level) in Mining Engineering, or relevant discipline

Maintenance Technician - Electrician

THE ROLE

An exciting residential opening is now available for an enthusiastic Electrician to join our KCGM Operations. This essential position will see you performing preventative and ongoing breakdown electrical maintenance to the Mineral Processing plant to ensure the plant continues to function at optimum gold production levels. In addition, this position will see you working predominately a Monday to Friday roster, promoting work/life balance with 5 weeks annual leave per annum.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of two (2) years electrical maintenance experience in a mining environment
  • Australian “A” Grade Electrical Licence and/or endorsed Electrical Fitter/Electrician qualification.
  • Certificate IV in Instrumentation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in Telemetry Control Systems.
  • Intermediate computer skills, in particular Microsoft Office, Word.
  • Experience in the generation and recording of Work Orders.
  • Experience in the generation of Job Hazard Assessments (JHA’s) and safety observations.

  • Confined Space and Working at Heights qualifications – valid within the last two (2) years
  • Demonstrated intermediate level of computer literacy
  • Experience in the generation and recording of Work Orders
  • Experience in the generation of Job Hazard Assessments (JHA’s) and safety observations
  • Demonstrated initiative, fault finding and problem solving skills
  • Developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Must reside locally in the Goldfields region, or be willing to relocate at own cost
  • National Police Clearance – valid within the last twelve (12) months
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Manual Drivers Licence.
