Trainee Information Sessions

KCGM offers trainee positions for people with no or little mining experience. Trainee information sessions are run by KCGM’s Recruitment team and provide an overview of the program and an opportunity to ask questions. Information sessions are being held at 10am at Hannans North Tourist Mine on the third Thursday of every month.

 

2021 KCGM Aboriginal Trainee Program

KCGM is proud to share that we are now recruiting for our 2021 Aboriginal Traineeship Program. 

These are entry-level roles, providing local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with a pathway into the Mining Industry at one of Australia’s largest gold producing mines.

Traineeships are available in the following areas:

  • Trainee Accounts Payable
    • Based in the Finance Team, this position ensures all supplier invoices are processed in a timely and accurate manner, meeting contract requirements and ensuring positive relationships with suppliers.
  • Trainee Geology
    • Based in the Exploration Team, this position supports KCGM’s Geology and exploration activities. This includes preparing ground for exploration, collecting and preparing geological samples, and maintaining the sample archives.
  • Trainee Maintenance Planning
    • This position supports the Maintenance Planning team, ensuring maintenance activities undertaken within plant shutdowns are properly scheduled and completed in a safe, organised and timely manner.
  • Trainee Processing
    • This position supports the Processing Team with monitoring and maintaining equipment at the Fimiston and Gidji Processing Plants, ensuring gold is recovered safely and efficiently.
  • Trainee Surveying
    • Assisting the Mine Survey Department, this position will provide support for mine survey tasks that are required for daily mining activities including digging, drilling and design. This includes creating 3D models and images of the mine using drones and scanners, and surveying safe areas of work and travel for others in the open pit.
  • Trainee Shotfirer
    • Based in the Drill and Blast Team, this position will provide you will skills required to carry out Open Pit charging and blasting activities safely, and in accordance with blast plans.

Training, development and mentoring are provided throughout your Traineeship to support you to succeed in the role.

Training Superintendent - Fixed Term

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is searching for an experienced and dynamic Training Superintendent to lead and coordinate the delivery of Training initiatives across site.

Reporting to the Manager, this position will be responsible for the delivery of timely, fit-for-purpose activities and initiatives to meet KCGM’s compliance obligations and enhance the company’s ability to attract, retain and develop talent. Also encompassed in this position is the translation of external requirements (e.g. legislation) and internal standards (e.g. Code of Conduct) through the use of contemporary T&D frameworks and concepts into meaningful T&D deliverables and outcomes for KCGM, and being the custodian for People Systems (e.g. Performance Planning, Talent & Succession) ensuring these are planned, delivered and tracked. Establish appropriate process linkages to ensure synergies between the systems and T&D activities.

This 12 month Fixed Term opportunity is set on a 5:2/4:3 roster, working 9.5 hour days.

Production Shovel Operator

Reporting to the Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for effectively and safely operating a Komatsu PC8000 shovel, as well as other mobile plant as directed, to ensure targets outlined in the Open Pit mining schedule are achieved in a safe and timely manner.

The Shovel Operator works a residential roster – 7 on, 7 off , 12 hour days and nights.

  • Minimum five (5) years all round open pit ancillary operating experience in a hard rock mine

This is a residential role on a 7/7 even time roster, and is a 6 month Fixed Term opportunity.

This residential role will be responsible for coordinating and delivering site and area specific training, including on-line and face to face facilitation to ensure personnel are appropriately trained and up skilled to the correct level in order to complete all required tasks of their position in a safe and efficient manner.

This role involves working primarily in an office based environment at KCGM’s Fimiston site on a day roster, however frequent and regular field work and in-field support will be required as part of the role.

In this residential position, the successful candidates will carry out open pit charging and blasting activities, as directed and in accordance with the Blast Plan.

This role involves working primarily in the Fimiston open pit, with regular office based tasks, working a 7:7 roster, 12 hour shifts. On-call rotations are also an expectation of the position, as well as occasional night shift.

The Civil and Integrity Works Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the integrity of structural steel, concrete, tanks and classified plants (Cranes, Vessels, Equipment) in the processing plants, so that all works are carried out in a safe, timely, cost effective and environmentally responsible manner, adhering to statutory obligations and KCGM policies and procedures.

This residential opportunity is set on a 5:2/4:3 Roster, working 9.5 hour days.

Requirements

Essential

  • Australian Trades certificate or Engineering degree.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience (trade/engineering) in the mining or heavy industry.
  • Minimum two (2) years in a supervisory role with demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Ability to coach and mentor team members, and set up for success.
  • Ability to think strategically and commercially, approach solutions creatively and consider organisation-wide impacts.

This residential role is a 5 on 2 off / 4 on 3 off fortnightly day roster, working 9.5 hour days.

As a Process Technician, you will undertake daily general plant activities in both the Fimiston Mineral Processing Plant and Gidji Operations. Underground Senior Planning & Projects Engineer

Reporting to the Underground Mine Manager, this residential role will manage the delivery of quality underground planning, and oversee the development and implementation of all operational and capital project activities, as per the department plans.

This is a residential role on a 5:2/4:3 roster, working 9.5 hour days.

Key Accountabilities may include:

  • Lead by example, understand and incorporate the safety systems, safety culture action plan and safety processes to protect the human and equipment resources in the design, planning and scheduling of the UG mining operations.
  • Contribute to the recruitment process of culturally fit and competent employees to build a diverse and highly capable UG technical production team that demonstrates inclusive, safe and productive behaviour to achieve the UG Operational Plan.
  • Generate strategic plans, LOM plans and operating/capital/manpower budgets to ensure continual development of Mt Charlotte and an increase in production efficiency to a level of detail which supports the UG mining operations ability to execute mining activities to expectations.

Requirements

Essential

  • A tertiary qualification (minimum degree level) in Mine Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of seven years hard rock underground mining experience including experience with multi-mining method deposits
  • A minimum of one year experience in a similar role with exposure to budget LOM plan generation including cost forecasting, capital expenditure generation and fleet / manning requirements
  • Ability to use integrated management systems, spreadsheet applications, word processing, mine planning and production software including Vulcan and Deswik and presentation programs
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and review strategic mining plans
  • Experience in generating technical reports for budgetary, legislative, feasibility and capital approval purposes
  • Experience in project evaluation and economic assessment for capital projects and continuous improvement opportunities
  • Excellent planning, time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to think strategically and commercially, approach solutions creatively and consider site wide impacts and opportunities
