Geotechnical Engineer - Projects - Open Pit

Project Geotechnical Engineer – Open Pit

Northern Star Resources Ltd is currently seeking an experienced Project Geotechnical Engineer to join the Mining Open Pit team at their Kalgoorlie KCGM Superpit operation.

This residential position will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of effective and safe production related Open Pit Geotechnical services, to ensure the safe achievement of budget and Life of Mine (LOM) targets.

This role involves working primarily in an office based environment at NSR-KCGM’s Fimiston site on a day roster, but regular field work and in-field support will be required as part of the role. Opportunity to support the underground Mt Charlotte Operations will also be required, on occasion.

Key Accountabilities may include:

  • Implement the slope monitoring programs to supply timely information and advice to all working teams in the mine areas on slope movement.
  • Complete daily Geotechnical inspections and reporting of the open pit and/or underground mining areas, to ensure and maintain productivity and safety of employees and contractors.
  • Prepare Geotechnical designs and implement via contractors, the ground support required to ensure rock face stability, to enable the steepest most productive slope possible that is also safe to operate.
  • Conduct Geotechnical project work to ensure continuous improvement with respect to Geotechnical activities.
  • Assist in developing the life of mine geotechnical designs for the open pit or underground operation, to contribute to long term mine plans.

Requirements

Essential

  • A tertiary qualification (minimum degree level) in Mine Engineering, or Geology with appropriate Geotechnical experience.
  • A minimum of two (2) years experience in a Geotechnical Engineering role in a mining environment.
  • Experience in a hard rock mining environment.
  • A high level of computer literacy and experience in Geotechnical software packages.
  • Must reside within the Goldfields region, or be willing to relocate for this residential role.
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

Preferred

  • Completed post graduate studies in the Geotechnical disciplines e.g. rock mechanics.
  • Five (5) years experience in a Geotechnical Engineering role in an open pit gold mine.

Open Pit Mine Geologist

Open Pit Mine Geologist

Northern Star Resources Ltd is currently seeking a Mine Geologist to join the Geology Department at the Superpit operation in Kalgoorlie.

The Mine Geologist will deliver the maximum ore grade to the Mineral Processing Plant, through accurate identification of mineralisation, optimal ore classification and supervision of extraction (to minimise dilution).

This residential role is on an 8:6 roster, working 11 hour days.

Key Accountabilities

  • Design, schedule and oversee Reverse Circulation (RC) or Diamond drilling programs to ensure provision of timely and accurate data for analysis.
  • Undertake analysis, interpretation and modelling of data, including drill samples and voids in order to accurately locate ore bodies and individual probe locations for the subsequent redevelopment and implementation of dig plans. As part of this process, examine Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) data and follow up on any issues with the laboratory in order to validate results used in estimation.
  • Monitor and adjust the ore extraction process to ensure correct classification of ore and optimal grade is delivered to processing. Conduct geological mapping.
  • Direct development in a narrow vein orebody.
  • Coordinate and assist in the ore mark-up process to ensure easy identification of ore and waste blocks. In addition, provide support and training to Graduate Geologists to assist their development to becoming active members of the Grade Control team.
  • Design, implement and mark out access ways for production equipment to access blasted zones.
  • Monitor and adjust, via ore spotting, the ore extraction process to ensure the dig plan is correctly followed and minimise the risk of ore loss and ore dilution.
  • Coordinate the planning, implementation and monitoring of RC drill schedules to ensure accurate data is available for analysis.

  • Developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation.

Working a 5:2/4:3 roster, this residential position will see the successful candidate being accountable for providing leadership, coaching, mentoring and direction for a team of health, safety and training professionals to be able to deliver professional advice and assistance in executing health, safety and training related matters and provide direction to ensure Northern Star’s internal and external compliance obligations are met.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior Health and Safety role.
  • Proven development, implementation and delivery of health and safety management systems.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety, or equivalent discipline.
  • Qualifications and experience with managing incident investigations, particularly with Incident Cause Analysis Method (ICAM).
  • Experience in a gold or mineral processing environments.

The Position

Northern Star has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for an Emergency Response Coordinator at our world-class Kalgoorlie KCGM Operation. This is a permanent full-time residential opportunity based in the Goldfields.

Your main responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate the development, training, and management of the Emergency Response Team on site.
  • Offering strategic direction for site crisis management and emergency response capability will also be required.
  • Developing and executing plans to address emergency response related risks across both our open pit and underground operations plus our processing plant also makes up part of this critical role.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience within an Emergency Response Coordinator role with exposure to open pit, underground and processing plant is essential
  • Previous leadership experience, with a proven ability to influence and mentor emergency services teams
  • Certificate III Mines Emergency Response and Rescue or relevant Volunteer Emergency Response (SES, VFS, BFB) experience
  • Current Western Australian “C” Class manual driver’s license

  • Operating CAT 793 and 777 haul trucks and water carts in the open pit, working in conjunction with PC 8000 Face shovels, Excavators and Loaders, to fulfil production requirements in a safe and reliable manner.
  • You will be a highly driven individual who is looking to expand their experience and knowledge.
  • You will display behaviour consistent to our Northern Star Values of Safety, Teamwork, Accountability, Respect and Results, looking to work with the business for the long term and be an integral part in its future growth and development.

Essential skills and experience include:

  • Minimum of two (2) years’ operating 793/777 haul trucks in an open cut mining environment (or similar sized Rigid Haul Trucks)
  • Other heavy machinery operating experience beneficial

  • Must reside locally in the Goldfields region, or willing to relocate for our residential role
  • National Police Clearance (valid within the last 12 months)

Requirements

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Operating CAT 793 and 777 haul trucks in the open pit and Ore Delivery/Rehandle area, working in conjunction with PC 8000 Face shovels, Excavators and Loaders, to fulfil production requirements in a safe and reliable manner.
  • Trainee CAT 793 and 777 Haul Truck Operators will be enrolled in a formal Certificate 3 in Surface Extraction, which will require completion over a 24 month period. Candidates will therefore be employed on a 24 month fixed-term contract, to align with certificate terms.
  • Trainee CAT 793 and 777 Haul Truck Operators will rotate through the Mining Open Pit departmental areas, and will also undertake a number of related activities, such as stick picking in the Ore Delivery team, training, and observations as part of their learnings and rotations through the mining operation.
  • You will be a highly driven individual, looking to expand your knowledge and experience
  • You will also display behaviour consistent with our Northern Star Values of Safety, Teamwork, Accountability, Respect and Results, looking to work with the business for the long-term, and be an integral part in its future growth and development.

Required skills and experience include:

  • Heavy machinery or other industrial machine operating experience beneficial
  • Exceptional focus on safety and strong work ethic

  • Ability to work across various areas of the operations, such as within the stick-picking team, physically removing waste and contaminants from the ore
  • National Police Clearance (valid within the last 12 months)

Northern Star Resources is seeking an experienced and dynamic Underground Drill and Blast Engineer to be part of the Mt Charlotte Technical team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for generating, scheduling and implementing short term Drilling, Blasting and Ancillary mine plans to achieve the operational plan in a safe and cost effective manner. This involves coordinating production activities with the Underground Production Superintendent to safely achieve production plans, and providing technical support to Underground Supervisors and crew members.

The role takes on a variety of essential tasks, including (but not limited to) daily and weekly data management for reporting purposes and stock take management of production drill and blast consumables to ensure the operation is provided with the tools and resources to maintain the safe underground production.

This is a residential role on an 8:6 roster, working 12 hour day shifts.

  • Experience in a production engineering related role with exposure to underground ventilation
  • Western Australian Underground Supervisors Certificate of competency, or the ability to attain the certificate, preferred
  • Dangerous Goods Security Card or proof of application, preferred
  • Must reside in the Goldfields, or be willing to relocate to the Goldfields region for this residential role
  • National Police Clearance – valid within the last twelve (12) months
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

Northern Star Resources Ltd is currently seeking an experienced Open Pit Mine Surveyor for the Mining Open Pits Department for the Superpit NSR-KCGM operation.

Working a residential, family friendly roster (8:6), the successful candidate will provide a surveying service to KCGM through the delivery of core mine survey production deliverables in a timely, safe and accurate manner. This includes void delineation, pit design compliance and all relevant survey production tasks to ensure the KCGM operation meets relevant safety and production targets.

Key accountabilities may include, but not limited to:

  • Lead by example in safety, particularly the accurate delineation of hazardous areas including voids.
  • Attend regular team meetings, including daily pre-starts to collect work assignments and understand how to manage risks appropriately when completing daily mine survey tasks.
  • Manage and action relevant requests from the Survey Request system. These include the mark out of “red and white” and “black and white” void areas, ore blocks, probe hole collars, location of steel bridges, location of light vehicle crossings, exclusion zones, drill patterns, pre-splits, drill hole collars, ramps, bench & berm designs.
  • Conduct drone surveys for the purpose of slope monitoring, incident surveys, pick-ups of ore stockpiles, pick-ups in the Open Pit, Tails Dam surveys and Infrastructure surveys.
  • Conduct regular scanning (weekly as a minimum) of open pit progression and communicate this to stakeholders.
  • Use aerial and scanning data to calculate volumes as part of weekly, fortnightly or monthly reporting.
  • Assist to update work instructions, training manuals and procedures to ensure they can be used as training aids and meet corporate compliance.

  • Experience with R10 Trimble GPS
  • Experience with Deswik Software
  • Well-developed communication skills

  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

Preferred

  • Current West Australian Grade One (1) Mine Surveyor Authorisation

  • Experience with I-Site Laser Scanning Software and Instruments

Northern Star has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Project Engineer (Electrical) to join our Processing Department at our world-class KCGM Operation. This opportunity is offered as residential in the Goldfields.

This role will be responsible for the end to end execution and management of multidisciplinary projects, from initial concept development and feasibility analysis, through to construction, commissioning and final handover. In addition, you will be expected to ensure all design work conforms to relevant statutory standards and specifications through engaging relevant external or internal technical and engineering specialists.

Requirements 

Essential

  • Minimum five (5) years experience in a similar role within the resources sector.
  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or formal project management qualification.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills enabling liaison at all levels of the organisation.
  • Ability to diagnose problems and identify potential solutions by thinking outside of the box delivering alternative outcomes.
  • National Police Clearance within twelve (12) months of age.
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.
  • Must reside locally in the Goldfields region, or be willing to relocate.
  • Passionate about safety, teamwork, honesty, integrity and results driven.

Preferred

  • Experience in a mineral processing environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Project Delivery life cycle.
  • Experience in working within a capital projects team.
  • Familiarity with relevant Australian Standards, Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations (MSIR).

Process Technician

Northern Star Resources is currently on the look out for skilled and experienced Process Technicians to join our Fimiston and Gidji Processing Teams at the NSR-KCGM site in Kalgoorlie.

These residential positions are on an even-time roster, working 12 hour shifts on both days and nights, providing a great work-home life balance to the local work force.

The Process Technician reports to the Shift Supervisor, and the primary role is to operate all sections of the processing plant which include, Crushing, Grinding, Flotation, Leaching, and Elution, in accordance with Specified parameters, to optimize gold production/recovery. This includes basic maintenance of the operational equipment within the Processing Department.

Essential Requirements

  • A minimum of one (1) years experience in a similar Process technician or Utilities technician position
  • Current Working at Heights and Confined Space tickets within two (2) years of age
  • Solid mechanical aptitude
  • Basic level of computer skills
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Display good problem solving skills.
  • Have a production and cost initiative focus.
  • Well developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in outdoors conditions, completing regular active tasks
  • High Risk Licences (LF, LS, WP) highly regarded, but not essential
  • Must reside locally within the Goldfields region
  • National Police Clearance – valid within the last twelve (12) months
  • Hold a current Unencumbered West Australian Manual “C” Class Drivers Licence.

The position

Northern Star has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for Fixed Plant Fitters to join the Processing Department at our world-class KCGM Operation. This is a permanent, full-time residential opportunity based in the Goldfields.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the position performs preventative, planned and breakdown mechanical maintenance for the KCGM Fimiston and Gidji Gold processing circuits, ensuring optimum operating conditions are achieved, with ongoing efficiency and reliability.

Requirements

  • Australian Nationally Accredited Trades Certificate in Mechanical Fitting and/or Fitter Machining.
  • Minimum of two (2) years mechanical maintenance experience, mine site-based preferred.
  • High Risk Work Licences, such as LF, WP, DG, RA – preferred.
  • Confined Space and Working at Heights qualifications – preferred.
  • Demonstrated intermediate level of computer literacy, with experience on Maintenance Management Systems.
  • High commitment to safety is essential.
  • Must reside locally within the Goldfields region, or willing to relocate for this residential role.
