Plant Metallurgist

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking a Plant Metallurgist to join the Processing Department at the Superpit operation in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

This is a residential role on a 9:5 roster.

The main purpose of this position is to provide ongoing metallurgical performance management of the assigned sections of the Fimiston Processing Plant to ensure metallurgical opportunities for process improvements are identified and implemented effectively at both Fimiston and Gidji.

Key accountabilities may include:

  • Monitor metallurgical results for assigned sections and make process recommendations to ensure agreed targets are met or exceeded.
  • Provide training and technical support to metallurgical, production and maintenance teams to enhance knowledge and optimise plant performance.
  • Monitor and report on metallurgical performance on a regular basis to ensure key process information and identified threats and opportunities are communicated to relevant personnel in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with Geologists and Mining Engineers to ensure a productive Mine-to-Mill relationship is maintained through active dissemination of information relating to plant performance.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • A minimum of two (2) years experience in mineral processing or related industries.
  • A demonstrated ability to understand and utilize process control applications to improve process metallurgy.
  • Working knowledge of metallurgical test work flow sheets and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and develop plant Piping & Instrumentation Drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify potential problems and react in a timely manner with a proven solution.
  • Excellent process analysis and technical problem solving skills.
  • High level of computer skills, particularly Excel.
  • Well developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven time management, planning and organisational skills.
  • A tertiary degree qualification in Chemical Engineering, Extractive Metallurgy or a related discipline.
  • Nationally Accredited Forklift Licence.
  • Must reside locally in the Goldfields region, or be willing to relocate.
  • National Police Clearance (valid within last 12 months).
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

Preferred

  • Experience in using safety reporting and monitoring systems .
  • Experience in using metallurgical accounting systems.
  • Senior First Aid Certificate

Senior Exploration Geologist

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking a Senior Exploration Geologist to join the Technical Services & Projects Department at the Superpit operation in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

This is a residential role on a 5:2/4:3 roster.

This role will be expected to manage the Exploration team and Exploration programs, add value to existing resources, participate in the identification of the next viable ore bodies, and to extend the KCGM Life of Mine (LOM). Focus upon targeting, program design and execution of exploration projects on time and within budget.

Key accountabilities may involve:

  • Actively demonstrate, and lead by example, the operation of all environmental, safety and security measures for the protection of all staff, the environment, and the security of company assets and consumables.
  • Personally demonstrate a positive attitude towards working safely and in compliance with the environment and community “Social License to Operate”.
  • Provide leadership through coaching, mentoring, and support for professional development activities, to members of the team to ensure ongoing professional development and the achievement of a safe and positive workplace culture that reflects KCGM’s Core Values.
  • Actively mentor and direct the Exploration team, Field Technicians, and Business Partners to ensure exploration is conducted as safely and effectively as possible. Management responsibility for the Exploration Geologists as direct reports: work planning and execution, coaching, performance management.
  • Generate and promote exploration (wingspan and brownfields) targets which align with KCGM’s exploration strategy and LOM production profile.
  • Design RAB/AC, RC and diamond (surface and underground) drill programs to test exploration targets.
  • Execution of exploration projects aimed at optimising operation’s LOM, to ensure that they are completed to plan, on time and within budget.
  • Ensure all geological data is captured accurately and efficiently. Data needs to be stored in the KCGM database.
  • Manage the administrative components of the execution of drill programs.
  • Ensure QAQC of assay data and downhole surveys (and associated reports) is completed and processes align with KCGM standards.
  • Manage the development of exploration geological models that conform to the requirements of the Joint Venture Owners’ project pipeline definitions, and in accordance with Exploration plans and schedules. Lead the interpretation of exploration information as it is generated.
  • Report regularly to the Exploration Superintendent on any and all geological, project execution, technical, safety and environmental matters pertaining to project development.
  • Management of Business Partner relationships (e.g. drilling, earthworks, water / rock suppliers), and ensure all Business Partners are complying with KCGM policies, procedures and standards at all times.
  • Lead the continuous improvement of the Exploration Management Operating System (MOS), to ensure that clearly defined processes are functional and maintained to manage risks and opportunities, and that the exploration information is collected, recorded and organised accurately to enable results to be further refined and potential future drill targets to be identified.
  • Actively manage the relationship between Exploration and all KCGM functional areas that are affected directly or indirectly by exploration activities (e.g. Environmental and Social Responsibility). Lead and continually seek to improve these cross-functional relationships through the Exploration MOS.
  • Under the guidance of the Senior Technical Geologist, participation in the development of exploration target strategy and definition.
  • Assist the Exploration Superintendent in the preparation of annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and preparation of purchase and service orders commensurate with role.
  • Oversee and submit regular exploration reports (quarterly, monthly, weekly) to meet corporate and legal compliance requirements.
  • Actively participate in aspects of Tenement Management required to obtain government approval and permission for ground disturbance, and ensure that statutory exploration reporting requirements are adhered to.
  • Participate in the development of personal training strategies and undertake appropriate training modules.
  • Undertake safety investigations as directed to ensure that incidents and/or injuries are fully reviewed in a timely manner and corrective actions are identified and allocated appropriately.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • A minimum of six (6) years working in an exploration geology role.
  • Experience in contractor management.
  • Experience managing a small team of professionals.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • A tertiary qualification (minimum degree level) in geology or a related discipline.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • Experience in 3D modelling software (Leapfrog or Vulcan), ARC and ioGAS.
  • Relevant Professional Association membership (AIG or AUSIMM).
  • Must reside in the Goldfields region.
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

Preferred

  • Working knowledge of production and resource modelling.
  • Experience working as a production geologist.
  • Formal training and, or qualifications in leadership or management.

Senior Drilling Supervisor

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking a Senior Drilling Supervisor to join the Technical Services & Projects Department at the Superpit operation in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

This is a residential role on a 5:2/4:3 roster.

This role will be responsible in monitoring and advising the drilling Contractors to ensure that all drilling programs at KCGM are executed safely, with optimal productivity and in compliance with the requirements of Newmont’s Exploration Drilling Standard. Importantly, as a drilling subject matter expert, the Senior Drilling Supervisor provides guidance and mentorship to the Geology team in the fields of drill-related planning, safety, plod and invoice auditing and productivity optimisation.

Key accountabilities may involve:

  • Advise on, develop and implement effective safety policy for all drilling-related activities undertaken on site.
  • Conduct regular field-based safety interactions and critical control verifications with drilling contractors ensuring that improvement opportunities are captured in Cintellate with appropriate actions to be tracked, verified and closed out.
  • Develop, implement and champion an audit regime covering procedure and equipment to ensure that KCGM is at all times compliant with the Newmont Exploration Drilling Standard.
  • Develop and maintain the necessary registers for Fatality Risk Management and the Exploration Drilling Standard requirements.
  • Be intimately involved in the verification of drill plods and invoices for validity against the program executed and the active drill contracts.
  • Analyze data captured in DrillCost to identify opportunities for improvement in driller performance, minimization of standby and directional drilling time and optimisation of maintenance schedules. Establish and communicate benchmarks for performance and support the development and implementation of improvement projects.
  • Participate in drilling Contractor toolbox meetings and Geology safety meetings to ensure that all relevant successes and opportunities for improvement are effectively communicated, and that feedback from the Contractor is registered and actioned upon where necessary.
  • Participate in regular contract review meetings with drilling Contractors on behalf of KCGM to ensure that communication regarding drill program-related issues are effectively conveyed and received.
  • Oversee the mobilization and demobilization of drill Contractor equipment and teams, including any necessary change management, to ensure that the processes are completed safely, smoothly and in accordance with KCGM policy.
  • Assume an advisory role as a subject matter expert in all safety investigations regarding incidents/injuries associated with the drilling programs.
  • Liaise closely with colleagues from elsewhere in the Company and industry to ensure that lessons are captured and issues are shared and escalated to management where appropriate.
  • Assess drilling Contractor equipment maintenance plans for content, validity and achievability.
  • Develop and implement a mentoring program for KCGM Geologists on all of the above accountabilities to improve the drilling knowledgebase of the team and optimise future drilling programs from the planning stage through all aspects of program execution.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Over 10 years drilling experience.
  • Experience of the Australian mining industry and associated mining regulations.
  • Experience developing or working closely with contracts.
  • Strong analytical skills, with a focus on Continuous Improvement.

Senior Resource Development Geologist

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking a Senior Resource Development Geologist to join the Technical Services & Projects Department at the Superpit operation in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

This is a residential role on a 5:2/4:3 roster.

Key accountabilities may involve:

  • Provide supervision, coaching and mentoring to members of the Open Pit Mine Geology Team, to ensure ongoing professional development and the achievement of a positive workplace culture that reflects KCGM’s Core Values.
  • Personally comply with all site safety, environmental and community relations procedures and ensure compliance from all members of the Mine Geology Team.
  • Ensure all incidents and accidents are reported and followed up correctly to minimise and manage risk and oversee investigations where required, ensuring that the Occupational Health and Safety Act is complied with at all times.
  • Identify and develop successors for the Resource Development Geologist role.
  • Prepare monthly and weekly reports on the performance of the Mine Geology function. Identify trends, variances to plans and report on performance to budget and forecasts to ensure KCGM and the Joint Venture (JV) representatives are kept informed.
  • Update, on a bi-annual frequency, all geological models for the purpose of resource estimation and near-mine exploration targeting.
  • Update, on an as required basis, the Open Pit void depletion model for down-stream use in block models.
  • Implement and ensure compliance with Newmont Resource Development procedures and standards.
  • Design, supervise and report on reserve conversion drilling programs immediately adjacent to the Fimiston Open Pit.
  • Ensure compliance with all Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures (collars, downhole surveys, assaying and rehabilitation of drill sites).
  • Monitor and report on QA/QC performance of all relevant data sets and take appropriate actions when trends develop outside of desired tolerances.
  • Oversee and complete project work for the department to contribute to the continuous improvement of the Mine Geology function.
  • Oversee and supervise drilling Contractors to ensure daily, weekly and monthly requirements are met.
  • Provide short term coverage for the Mine Geology Superintendent during periods of leave or other absence.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • A tertiary qualification (minimum degree level) in Geology.
  • Minimum six (6) years’ experience as a geologist, with at least three (3) years in a mine geology environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in sampling, Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QAQC), resource development and reconciliation.
  • Experience with Contractor Management (analytical assay and drilling).
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • Good listening and decision making skills.
  • Experience in Vulcan and / or Datamine.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Well-developed leadership skills.
  • Must reside in the Goldfields region.
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

  • Eight (8) years’ experience as a geologist.

Boilermaker Supervisor - Mine Maintenance

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking an experienced Boilermaker Supervisor for the Mining Open Pits Department at the Superpit. This is a residential role on a 5/2:4/3 roster.

KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

The successful candidate will manage the Boilermaking maintenance across KCGM’s open pit mobile fleet in order to meet equipment availability, reliability and life cycle requirements in a safe, timely, environmentally responsible manner and within budget.

Key accountabilities may include:

  • Proactively encourage reporting of all incidents and accidents. Review and monitor all incident and accident reports ensuring investigations and follow up actions are correctly implemented and completed to ensure that the Occupational Health and Safety Act is complied with at all times.
  • Offer guidance through coaching and mentoring to members of the Mobile Maintenance Boilermaking team and business partners driving a positive workplace culture that reflects KCGM’s Core Values and the Code of Conduct.
  • Provide expert technical information to the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Department when required in accident or incident investigation.
  • Manage the fleet Boilermaker maintenance to deliver agreed safety targets.
  • Manage the fleet Boilermaker maintenance to deliver budgeted availability and cost targets.
  • Manage the fleet Boilermaker maintenance to ensure agreed KPIs, schedules and work quality are all met and are in the best interests of KCGM. Ensure all variances to the agreed KPIs have plans in place to address them.
  • Liaise with maintenance supervisors/ Superintendent on all matters affecting equipment availability, reliability and condition in order to improve communication and education, secure the customers support for the asset management program, and minimize equipment damage in order to maximize the availability and life of the equipment.
  • Work with the business partners to identify and complete projects to improve the equipment availability, reliability and cost.
  • Coordinate and facilitate new and trial development programs in the department, to ensure an environment of continuous improvement on an ongoing basis.
  • Develop and manage the fleet maintenance strategy for the mobile equipment to meet the Life Of Mine
  • Oversee equipment re-build programs relating to the mobile fleet to ensure a high quality of work and compliance to the budget and schedule.
  • Provide expert technical advice and support for the selection of new machines and equipment to ensure that production targets can be achieved.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Australian-recognized Boilermaker trade qualification.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ practical experience, including at least three (3) years in a supervisor role.
  • Excellent computer skills in Word, Excel and Project, and experience in the use of modern maintenance databases.
  • Experience leading teams, including the capacity to motivate, mentor and influence others.
  • Experience in budgeting, financial analysis and cost management.
  • Experience within a mining or heavy industrial environment.
  • Experience in planning and scheduling.
  • Must reside within the Goldfields region.
  • National Police Clearance within twelve (12) months of age
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

Graduate Underground Mine Engineer

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking a Graduate Underground Mine Engineer for the Mining – Underground Department at the Mt Charlotte Operation. This is a residential role on a 5/2:4/3 roster.

KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

The successful candidate will assist in the provision of a variety of services pertaining to mine ventilation as it is intended that the incumbent obtain the necessary practical experience to qualify for a WA Underground Shift Supervisor or First Class Mine Manager Certificate of Competency. Further practical experience within production engineering, drill and blast design, short and long term planning and obtaining training in data management, reporting and tracking is intended to be developed upon completion of practical operating experience.

Key accountabilities may include:

  • Complete practical underground experience, including the operation of various mobile plant in a safe and effective manner, including but not limited to, Atlas Copco 5010 Trucks, CAT/Elphinstone 2900 and 1700 Loaders, CAT Integrated Toolcarriers and the Atlas Copco H1357/M7C Simba Long Hole Drill; Stope and Development Charge-up and Service Crew duties.
  • Assist the Ventilation Officer in performing both primary and secondary surveys of underground ventilation systems as per operational and legislative requirements.
  • Undertake simulations of ventilation models and run associated scenarios, to maintain emergency response preparedness.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities for the development of ventilation models, in order to determine the optimum method of establishing a ventilation framework.
  • Undertake ventilation projects, as required, to further develop existing mine ventilation efficiency and reliability.
  • Update mine ventilation system data in existing mine design software to ensure the availability of accurate ventilation information for relevant Mining Engineers and the Safety/Training Coordinator.
  • Establish and maintain a ventilation location board, to ensure the ready access of ventilation system information for all employees and contractors.
  • Assist the Production Engineer in other duties as required. This includes, but is not limited to production planning and scheduling, drill and blast design and explosives management.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Mine Engineering
  • Vacation Student work experience in an underground mining environment
  • Developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation
  • Demonstrated understanding of Western Australian Mine Regulations.

Key accountabilities may include:

  • Hold appointed Underground Manager ticket as a Deputy to the Underground Superintendent when required.
  • Act as Engineering Superintendent when required to lead the technical group and support the UGM
  • Accountable for generation of comprehensive stope note documents for the future stopes, with the focus to deliver reviewed stope mining plans prior to scheduled production activities for that stope.
  • Generate and complete stope reconciliation and analysis to determine the stope performance and highlight areas of risk and opportunities in future stopes.
  • Accountability for generation of detailed weekly plan that ensure weekly development, production, ancillary and maintenance activities are aligned to the medium term plan and support the long term strategy for the mine.
  • Responsible for weekly reporting of operational performance and high level analysis of areas that are a risk or opportunity to the business. Supporting and liaising with the Underground Manager to ensure the commentary reported through the business is accurate and succinct.
  • Accountability to ensure blast vibration monitoring is compliant with the MTC environment agreement and all underground stope blasts adhere to the statutory requirements of site. Responsible for proactive designs to reduce and mitigate environmental impact from blast vibration.
  • Proactively encourage reporting of all incidents and accidents, review and monitor all incident and accident reports of relevant area ensuring investigations and follow up actions are correctly implemented and completed to ensure that the Occupational Health and Safety Act is complied with at all times.
  • Contribute and support the Underground Manager in facilitating Department of Mines, Industry, Regulation and Safety visits, inspections and investigations.
  • Be involved and lead a Full Potential (operational improvement) Projects to reduce operational cost or improve productivity
  • Contribute and liaise with the Senior Planning and Projects Engineer to generate detailed and accurate physical and cost Forecasts for the operation. Provide key production productivity information for building accurate operational budgets.
  • Provide leadership through management of coaching, mentoring and developmental activities to production, drill and blast engineers, graduates and other junior technical staff members driving a positive workplace culture that reflects KCGM’s Values.
  • Oversee generation of operational work plans; job hazard analysis and team based risk assessments complimentary to works.
  • Contribute to the development of strategic plans, LOM contributions and operating/capital/manpower budgets to ensure continual development of Mt Charlotte and an increase in production efficiency.
  • Accountable for effective management of specific production contractors to support the operation and the productivity output
  • Coordinate cross functional planning and information sharing with Geology and Geotechnical specialist in the Mt Charlotte team.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Bachelor of Mining Engineering or other relevant discipline and/or experience (reviewed on a case by case nature).
  • Minimum of 6 years mining experience, with at least a minimum of 3 years in an underground environment.
  • Minimum one year at a senior level in a similarly sized operation or at a supervisory level within a larger operation, with exposure to leading and coaching a team in safe production in hard rock mining
  • The ability to use integrated management systems, spreadsheet applications, word processing, high level mine planning / production software including Vulcan, Deswik and presentation programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose problems and identify potential solutions by thinking out side of the box delivering alternative outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate representatives of varying disciplines towards achieving a common objective.
  • Must reside in the Goldfields region, or willing to be relocated.
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

Business Assistant (Fixed Term)

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking an experienced Business Assistant to join the Underground Mining team in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

This residential 5:2/4:3 role will be responsible for providing Administration and general office services to the fast-paced Mt Charlotte Underground Operations team.

This role is Fixed Term until December 2019.

Key Accountabilities may include:

  • Undertake miscellaneous administrative duties, including but not limited to; photocopying, inward/outward mail, faxing, word processing and maintenance of the Mt Charlotte Superintendent’s filing system.
  • Collate process and present prescribed data from underground personnel and online systems; to ensure legislative requirements are maintained as well as providing a ready source of information for subsequent analysis. Data will include, but is not limited to, underground production and efficiency reports, production tracking sheets, Mt Charlotte end of month reports, employee & contractor time sheets, equipment plods and personnel plods.
  • Undertake the pre-commencement check process for contractors requiring access to KCGM’s lease, to ensure site security and employee welfare requirements are met.
  • Maintain site database systems and software, associated with Mt Charlotte employees and contractors, to ensure ongoing availability of Information System Access and attainment of site induction requirements.
  • Maintain office supplies and coordinate office equipment maintenance to ensure availability of resources for subsequent usage.
  • Assist with ordering of goods and services through EMPAC as well as external suppliers to ensure timely resource availability.
  • Support the raising of purchase orders and receipting of invoices, to ensure required goods are ordered, received and payment made for subsequent usage by the operation.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Minimum typing speed of 40WPM.
  • Intermediate to strong level in Microsoft Office Software.
  • Proven organisational and planning abilities.
  • Ability to work extremely well under pressure.
  • Two (2) years office based administration experience.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of the organisation.
  • Completion of year twelve (12) Secondary School.

Underground Surveyor

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking an experienced Underground Surveyor for the Mining – Underground Department for the Mt Charlotte operation. This is a residential role on a 5/2:4/3 roster.

KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

The successful candidate will provide a surveying service to the Mt Charlotte Underground Operations team.

Key accountabilities may include:

  • Ensure development drill process is continually cyclically supported by: regular development survey memo releases; constant ‘pick-ups’ and the feedback provided to the Jumbo crews and Shift bosses/Foreman.
  • Ensure production drill set-out and mark-ups are continually completed ahead of the planned drilling schedule
  • Carry out end of month process for development and stope reconciliation
  • Monitoring Program: Carry out a program of monitoring on voids, faults, joints, development over break and other areas of interest. Conduct scans on voids in and around the mine where required using appropriate technology.
  • Be involved in weekly and monthly planning process for work task generation.
  • Support the diamond drilling exploration and grade control programs through mark-up and plan generation from Geology.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Experience in Underground gold mining for a minimum of three (3) years
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence
  • Ability to attain or possess Mine Surveyors’ Certificate Grade One (1)
  • Experience with Surpac Software
  • Experience with Leica / Trimble Instruments
  • Must reside in the Goldfields region, or willing to relocate
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

Preferred

  • Experience in older underground operations with historic survey data & control via back stations, floor projections.
  • Experience with Deswik or Vulcan software.

Underground Drill & Blast Engineer

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking a Drill & Blast Engineer to join the Underground Mining team at Mt Charlotte in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

In this residential role, you will generate, schedule and implement short term Drilling, Blasting and ancillary mine plans to achieve the operational plan in a safe and cost effective manner. This involves coordinating production activities with Underground Mine Foreman to safely achieve production plans, and providing technical support to Underground Supervisors and crew members.

The role also includes daily and weekly data management for reporting purposes and stocktake management of production drill and blast consumables to ensure the operation is provided with the tools and resources to maintain the safe underground production.

The Underground Drill & Blast Engineer position is on a 5:2 / 4:3 roster.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Develop Drill and Blast plans to ensure available drilled and blasted stocks are maintained.
  • Assist with the generation of the Two Weekly Plan and provide key drilling and blasting information to Planning engineer to ensure it aligns with rolling 12 weekly plan. Ensure the schedule effectively utilises production resources and maintains ore production to meet daily and weekly production targets.
  • Successfully plan, monitor and manage the drilled and developed stocks to maintain sufficient stocks ahead of the mining plan.
  • Conduct drill consumables and explosive products stocks are maintained to meet operational requirements and ensure legislative requirements are met for explosive management.
  • Maintain and manage drill and blast contractors that support the underground production activities. Ensure conduct and management of contractors in to the KCGM standard.
  • Develop and execute work plans and instructions for minor projects and ancillary service works that support the production activities of the mine to ensure safe and efficient production of stopes.
  • Liaise with the Senior Production Engineer to ensure monthly targets are being achieved through daily and weekly plans. Conduct opportune mine projects as directed by Senior Technical Team.
  • Undertake generation of Drill and Blast design component of the pre-production mining Stope Note and ensure the correct plans are completed before production activity commences.
  • Assist the Ventilation Officer when required with Mine Ventilation planning, surveys and ventilation circuit generation and modification plans.
  • Co-ordinate production activities with Underground Mine Foreman to safely achieve production plans.
  • Provide technical support to Underground Supervisors and underground crew members when required, to assist in providing solutions to production activity challenges.
  • Prepare Daily and Weekly reports as required
  • Mining activities data base management with daily data entry for production and development activities
  • Support and train Graduate Mining Engineers

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a similar underground position
  • Bachelor of Mining or Engineering (Mining)
  • Advanced level in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience in mine design software, however, Vulcan is the preferred software package
  • Experience in a production engineering related role with exposure to underground ventilation
  • Western Australian Underground Supervisors Certificate of competency, or the ability to attain the certificate, preferred
  • Dangerous Goods Security Card or proof of application, preferred
  • Must reside in the Goldfields, or be willing to relocate to the region
  • National Police Clearance – valid within the last twelve (12) months

THE ROLE

This integral residential position is responsible for managing and providing strategic and operational leadership to the Open Pit Production Team by efficiently directing and monitoring the hauling fleet activities, ensuring all production targets are safely achieved in a coordinated, cost effective and timely manner.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Improve Safety Performance and Culture: – Lead by example; understand and implement safety systems and KCGM Safety Culture Action Plan; conduct Safety Interactions.

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking an experienced Safety Advisor to join the Services team in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

This residential role will be responsible for undertaking the maintenance, development and enforcement of Occupational Health and Safety standards, to ensure ongoing Legislative and Company compliance. This ensures ongoing compliance and development of Statutory, Company and Joint Venture Owner Safety Policies, Procedures and Standards, to ensure the maintenance of a safe work environment.

This role involves working primarily in an office based environment at KCGM’s Fimiston site on a 5:2/4:3 day roster. Regular field work and in-field support will be required as part of the role.

Key Accountabilities may include:

  • Ensure ongoing compliance and development of Statutory, Company and Joint Venture Owner Safety Policies, Procedures and Standards, to ensure the maintenance of a safe work environment.
  • Facilitate Departmental Safety Meetings, including but not limited to, Safety Representatives and Contractors, to ensure the ongoing attainment and development of Safety Standards.
  • Undertake administrative duties pertaining to safety to ensure ongoing Statutory compliance.
  • Undertake Contractor Management Appraisals, from a safety perspective, to ensure alignment of Contractor safety practices with site Safety Standards.
  • Coordinate the safety investigation process as required, to allow for the identification of contributory factors and corrective actions, in order to reduce the likelihood of repeat incidents.
  • Collate and interpret data pertaining to safety, to allow for the identification of trends and associated development of Safety Procedures and Policies.
  • Provide generic site safety training to personnel, to ensure both Employees and Contractors are aware of and competent in the application of Site Safety Procedures, Policies and Standards.
  • As required assist the Industrial Hygienist in collecting samples from Employees.

  • Developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation.
  • Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.

Mine Geologist

THE ROLE

Working a residential, family friendly roster (9:5), the Mine Geologist is responsible for delivering the optimal ore grade to the Mineral Processing Plant, through accurate identification of mineralisation, delineation of ore blocks, and supervision of extraction to minimize dilution. This includes scheduling, supervision of RC drilling programs, modelling of the resulting data, and providing technical support to the operational team during mining.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Design, schedule and oversee Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling programs to ensure provision of timely and accurate grade control data for analysis.
  • Undertake analysis, interpretation and modelling of data, including drill samples, resource definition plans and voids in order to accurately locate ore bodies and individual probe locations for the subsequent redevelopment and implementation of dig plans. As part of this process, examine Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) data and follow up on any issues with the laboratory in order to validate results used in estimation.
  • Coordinate and assist in the ore mark-up process to ensure easy identification of ore and waste blocks. In addition, provide support and training to Graduate Geologists to assist their development to becoming active members of the Grade Control team.
  • Design, implement and mark out access ways for production equipment to access blasted zones.
  • Monitor and adjust, via ore spotting, the ore extraction process to ensure the dig plan is correctly followed and minimise the risk of ore loss and ore dilution.
  • Coordinate the planning, implementation and monitoring of sample schedules to ensure accurate data is available for analysis.
  • Prepare weekly reports by collecting mining data to identify mining physicals and attainment to plan.
  • Prepare weekly grade control drilling and mining schedules with supervision from the Senior Mine Geologist.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Tertiary qualification in Geology
  • Two (2) years’ experience in an Open Pit mining environment
  • One (1) years’ experience in Grade Control
  • Underground experience is desired but not essential.
  • Experience with 3D mining software, eg Vulcan
  • Developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation
  • Sound problem solving ability
  • National Police Clearance – valid within the last twelve (12) months
  • Must reside locally in the Goldfields region, or willing to relocate
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian Manual “C” Class Drivers Licence
  • Light Rigid or Heavy Rigid licence is preferred, or ability to obtain if successful
