Mine Geology Superintendent

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is a Western Australian-owned Joint Venture operation between Northern Star Resources Ltd and Saracen Mineral Holdings Ltd.

The iconic KCGM operation consists of the Fimiston Open Pit (Superpit), Mt Charlotte (Underground) and the Fimiston and Gidji Processing plants, and is located adjacent to the township of Kalgoorlie, making it one of the best residential mining opportunities in the region, providing excellent work-home life balance to the residential work-force and sustainability for the Goldfields region.

A stellar opportunity now exists for an experienced Mine Geology Superintendent to lead the Mine Geology function of the Superpit operation.

Reporting to the Geology Manager, this pivotal position will provide leadership and overall management of the Mine Geology team in order to maximise the return from the underground and open pit mines by providing technical support, mentoring and enthusiastic leadership to all levels, whilst adding to reserves and resources that create accretive value and extend life of mine to existing mines through close liaison with the Exploration and Resource Development groups.

Key accountabilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide leadership, through positive coaching, mentoring, and support for the professional development activities, to the Geology Team to support succession planning and the achievement of a positive and safe workplace culture that reflects KCGM’s Values.
  • Ensure integrity and timeliness of geological data collection and reporting (including reconciliation) and that geological interpretation is completed to a high standard.
  • Monitor, approve and report on Grade Control month end reconciliations to identify variance to plan, and develop strategies to improve future mining operations. In addition, review and report regularly on the performance of the Geology function to ensure KCGM Management and the JV representatives are kept informed.
  • Ensure all reports, programs and models are completed safely and to a high level, consistent with KCGM’s Standards and scope.
  • Ensure that the geological interpretation is incorporated into high standard JORC compliant resource and grade control models.
  • Coordinate Grade Control contractors to ensure they meet their key performance indicators (KPIs) in accordance with contractual obligations and monthly plans.
  • Create and maintain on a quarterly frequency the Reserve and Resource drilling and modelling schedule.
  • Budget, plan and schedule all Reserve conversion drilling programs and Resource drilling programs from Underground platforms.
  • Develop and manage the Mine Geology budget and quarterly forecasts to ensure expenditure is within budget. In addition, provide support data to create annual budgets/forecasts.
  • Maintain and improve the Geology function’s Management Operating System (MOS) to support an environment of continuous improvement by actively participating and managing continuous improvement projects.
  • Review the quarterly and annual plans to identify trends in the short and long term planning and ensure the life of mine (LOM) can be delivered and ensure the Geology inputs are included in the LOM.

REQUIREMENTS

The successful applicant will have the following:-

Essential

  • A Tertiary Qualification (minimum degree level) in Geology or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience as a geologist covering both open pit and underground mining environments.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a leadership role involving management of a professional teams and external contractors.
  • Broad geological experience and supervision in the design and supervision of drilling(RC & Diamond), sampling and QAQC programmes
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in sampling, QAQC, block modelling, advanced grade estimation techniques, and reconciliation.
  • Familiar with budgeting cycles and the preparation and development of budgets and building strategic business plans.
  • Relevant Professional Association membership (AusImm or MAIG).
  • Ability to think strategically and commercially, approach solutions creatively and consider organisation-wide impacts.
  • Well-developed analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and people management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to all levels of the organisation.
  • Strong Leadership skills

Field Coordinator

THE ROLE

A residential opportunity now exists for an experienced Field Coordinator to lead the Field-Based Geology function of the Superpit operation.

Reporting to the Senior Geologist, the successful incumbent will successfully coordinate and provide leadership to the Core Farm Supervisors, Field Technicians and Exploration Geotechnicians to ensure the provision of accurate and timely field based services and data (including assay sample results) to geological and geotechnical personnel.

Key accountabilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise and coordinate field Geologists, Core farm Supervisors and Field Technicians to complete field operations for the Exploration and Mining Geology Departments at KCGM’s various areas across the operation.
  • Supervise and carry out drill rig sampling and processing (Diamond, RC, AC/RAB), surface geochemical sampling, and other exploration field activities.
  • Liaise with the Exploration, Mining Geology and Mining departments on scheduling and resource allocation for field programs.
  • Ensure all other field staff have the competencies to perform the requirements of their position descriptions.
  • Coordinate logistics for field programs and ensure programs are conducted within budget and on time.
  • Schedule and supervise rehabilitation activities related to exploration activities.
  • Supervise and coordinate the cleaning, maintenance and use of Exploration and Mining Geology vehicles and equipment. This includes ensuring your team has ordered a suitable level of consumables to maintain continual availability.
  • Ensure safe working procedures are followed at all times, and regularly review procedures as part of KCGM’s continuous improvement strategy.
  • Maintain a safe working environment through pro-active identification of hazards and a safe system of work.
  • Undertake safety investigations as directed to ensure that incidents and/or injuries are fully reviewed in a timely manner and corrective actions are identified and allocated appropriately.
  • Undertake blast monitoring to provide geologists with data enabling the review and adjustment of ore boundaries.
  • Coordinate the provision of samples to assay laboratories and maintain quality control over the data received to ensure the on time and accurate delivery of results to geology personnel for modelling purposes.
  • Ensure all activities are compliant with the KCGM’s Environmental Policy, ensuring you report any situation, event or incident that has affected or has the potential to harm the environment to the Department Head and Environmental team.
  • Must comply with all statutory acts and regulations, legal requirements and Company Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensure works are completed by service providers in accordance with contracts.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • A minimum of ten (10) years field geology experience in the Mining Industry, in either underground, open pit or exploration environments.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the supervision of teams and individuals in an effective manner, with the ability to coach, mentor and support employee development in a positive manner.
  • A sound working knowledge of assay laboratories and sample processing.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience with drill rigs and various drilling techniques and programs.
  • Good computer literacy including aptitude with the Microsoft Office suite, with the ability to prepare reports and compile data.
  • A knowledge of, and commitment to, safety systems and practices within the Mining Industry.
  • Sound interpersonal skills enabling the ability to interact at all levels of the organisation and with individuals of varying educational backgrounds.
  • Capable and confident in working in remote areas.
  • Ability to think strategically and commercially, approach solutions creatively and consider organisation-wide impacts.
  • High Risk Fork Lift licence.
  • Must reside in the Goldfields region, or be willing to relocate to Kalgoorlie for this residential position.
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

Preferred

  • S44 Appointed Person, S44 of the Mine Safety Inspection Act 1994 Training.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in Open Pit mining.
  • Current unencumbered West Australian “MR” Class Drivers Licence.

ICT Systems Administrator

THE ROLE

An opportunity now exists for an experienced Systems Administrator to join the IT team within the Services Department of the Superpit operation.

This is a residential role on a 5/2:43 roster, working 9.5 hour days.

Sitting within the Finance & Business Improvement function, this position provides technical skills and support across KCGM information technology infrastructure to achieve high availability, maximum effectiveness, strong security of primary and secondary infrastructure systems, as well as delivering high quality Service Desk incident and request resolution to KCGM.

Key accountabilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • In a team environment, investigate, analyse and resolve assigned infrastructure incidents, problems and service requests, so that assigned incident ‘work arounds’, problems and requests are actioned efficiently and completed in the shortest practical time, according to priority.
  • Ensure all actions undertaken to resolve an assigned incident, problem or request are recorded in the IT job management system and update information when omissions are identified.
  • Conduct daily tasks as per work allocated in the system queues, or from phone enquiries, from the service desk to provide support for KCGM users, this involves troubleshooting and problem solving user issues. This includes providing one on one training for users when requested.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, by conducting scheduled inspections on logs and events to identify actual and potential bottlenecks on systems. This process identifies current and future work that may be required. In addition, conduct preventative maintenance on the desktop fleet, to ensure issues are dealt with, and to ensure all software upgrades occur, as required. This enables standard operating environments to be set up for all new and current users.
  • Monitor and maintain server units to ensure high availability for all users. Support and maintain all peripheral, telecommunications and networking equipment to ensure ease of user access and availability.
  • Schedule, conduct and test all backups completed, including managing the back-up strategy, to ensure disaster recovery, business continuity and Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) compliance, in order to meet the corporate and legal requirements.
  • Lead through collaboration and consultation on identified projects to ensure ongoing continuous improvement initiatives are implemented within a timely manner.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience within a similar role;
  • Tertiary qualification within the relevant IT field;
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service;
  • Ability to work in a team based environment;
  • Windows Server, Active Directory and Group Policy, VMware, Microsoft Exchange;
  • Networking and routing knowledge including TCP/IP, LAN, WAN, DHCP, DNS, VPN;
  • Microsoft SCCM, SOE implementations, software deployment strategies;
  • Must reside locally in the Goldfields region;

Expressions of Interest - Process Technicians

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) would like to open an Expressions of Interest for experienced Process Technicians to join the Processing Department at the Superpit operation in Kalgoorlie.

KCGM’s Process Technicians are on a 2 days, 2 nights, 4 off roster, working 12 hour shifts, and work across both the Gidji and Fimiston sites.

As a Process Technician, you will undertake daily general plant activities in both the Fimiston Mineral Processing Plant and Gidji Operations. This will include monitoring and maintaining assigned operations and equipment within the plants to optimize circuit availability and gold recovery, safely and efficiently.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Maintain constant surveillance of assigned work stations to ensure effective and efficient operations of the plant in a safe manner.
  • Report all mechanical and electrical problems to the Shift Supervisor and Process Controller to ensure safe operation of the plant and to maintain productivity.
  • Conduct clean-up duties where required to ensure plant equipment is functioning properly and safely.
  • Perform basic reactive maintenance on plant equipment to ensure productivity is maintained.
  • Assist in the review of Standard Operating Procedures to ensure they are reflective of work performed and required.
  • Collect and record routine readings and analyse samples within the plant for Quality Assurance Quality Control (QAQC) purposes.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of two (2) years experience in a similar Process technician or Utilities technician position
  • Current Working at Heights and Confined Space tickets within two (2) years of age
  • Solid mechanical aptitude
  • Metalliferous Mining qualifications or study thereto highly regarded, but not essential
  • High Risk Licences (LF, LS, WP) highly regarded, but not essential
  • Well developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate level of computer skills
  • Ability to work in outdoors conditions, completing regular active tasks
  • Must reside locally within the Goldfields region
  • National Police Clearance – valid within the last twelve (12) months
  • Hold a current Unencumbered West Australian Manual “C” Class Drivers Licence.

Expressions of Interest - Utilities Technicians

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) would like to open an Expressions of Interest for Utilities Technicians to join the Processing Department at the Superpit operation in Kalgoorlie.

This residential position is on a 5 days, 2 off roster, working 10 hour days.

As a Utilities Technician you will undertake daily general plant activities in the Fimiston Mineral Processing Plant and Mt Charlotte and Gidji operations to ensure a high level of housekeeping and shutdown preparation to contribute to meeting shutdown schedules and supporting the optimum recovery of gold, safely and efficiently.

This could include, but is not limited to

  • Undertake replenishment of reagent stocks to ensure continuous supply to the Mineral Processing Plant for optimum gold recovery.
  • Complete the cleaning of the Mount Charlotte, Fimiston and CIL tanks, and Gidji operation in order to prepare the Mineral Processing Plant for planned shut-down tasks to be conducted by Process Technicians and Maintenance personnel.
  • Undertake Shutdown Isolation Preparation cleaning of chutes, hoppers, cells and launders to ensure shutdown Maintenance tasks are ready for inspections.
  • Conduct clean out of CIL Tanks to ensure draining and hosing of the remaining slurry contents is conducted in readiness for Maintenance inspections.
  • Set up mobile compressors for plant air outlets and mobile pumps as required in bunded areas and sumps wells and conduct regular daily operational checks to ensure continual supply.
  • Undertake evacuation of rubbish and hydro-carbon receptacles to ensure cleanliness of plant is maintained.
  • Provide input to regular revisions of Standard Operating Procedures to assist in ensuring they are reflective of required work to be performed.

  • Previous mine-site experience beneficial
  • Current Working at Heights and Confined Space tickets
