Graduate Underground Mine Engineer

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking a Graduate Underground Mine Engineer for the Mining – Underground Department at the Mt Charlotte Operation. This is a residential role on a 5/2:4/3 roster.

KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

The successful candidate will assist in the provision of a variety of services pertaining to mine ventilation as it is intended that the incumbent obtain the necessary practical experience to qualify for a WA Underground Shift Supervisor or First Class Mine Manager Certificate of Competency. Further practical experience within production engineering, drill and blast design, short and long term planning and obtaining training in data management, reporting and tracking is intended to be developed upon completion of practical operating experience.

Key accountabilities may include:

  • Complete practical underground experience, including the operation of various mobile plant in a safe and effective manner, including but not limited to, Atlas Copco 5010 Trucks, CAT/Elphinstone 2900 and 1700 Loaders, CAT Integrated Toolcarriers and the Atlas Copco H1357/M7C Simba Long Hole Drill; Stope and Development Charge-up and Service Crew duties.
  • Assist the Ventilation Officer in performing both primary and secondary surveys of underground ventilation systems as per operational and legislative requirements.
  • Undertake simulations of ventilation models and run associated scenarios, to maintain emergency response preparedness.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities for the development of ventilation models, in order to determine the optimum method of establishing a ventilation framework.
  • Undertake ventilation projects, as required, to further develop existing mine ventilation efficiency and reliability.
  • Update mine ventilation system data in existing mine design software to ensure the availability of accurate ventilation information for relevant Mining Engineers and the Safety/Training Coordinator.
  • Establish and maintain a ventilation location board, to ensure the ready access of ventilation system information for all employees and contractors.
  • Assist the Production Engineer in other duties as required. This includes, but is not limited to production planning and scheduling, drill and blast design and explosives management.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Mine Engineering
  • Vacation Student work experience in an underground mining environment
  • Developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation
  • Demonstrated understanding of Western Australian Mine Regulations.
  • National Police Clearance – valid within the last twelve (12) months
  • Must reside locally in the Goldfields region, or willing to relocate
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian Manual “C” Class Drivers Licence
  • Preferred experience in the operation of various underground mobile plant
  • Preferred experience with underground ventilation systems

Underground Senior Drill and Blast Engineer

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking an experienced Underground Senior Drill and Blast Engineer for the Mining – Underground Department for the Superpit. This is a residential role on a 5/2:4/3 roster.

KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

The successful candidate will oversee planning and coordination of all underground (UG) operational and technical production activities to ensure resource availability is maximized, and to achieve the budget plan in a cost effective, timely and safe manner.

Key accountabilities may include:

  • Hold appointed Underground Manager ticket as a Deputy to the Underground Superintendent when required.
  • Act as Engineering Superintendent when required to lead the technical group and support the UGM
  • Accountable for generation of comprehensive stope note documents for the future stopes, with the focus to deliver reviewed stope mining plans prior to scheduled production activities for that stope.
  • Generate and complete stope reconciliation and analysis to determine the stope performance and highlight areas of risk and opportunities in future stopes.
  • Accountability for generation of detailed weekly plan that ensure weekly development, production, ancillary and maintenance activities are aligned to the medium term plan and support the long term strategy for the mine.
  • Responsible for weekly reporting of operational performance and high level analysis of areas that are a risk or opportunity to the business. Supporting and liaising with the Underground Manager to ensure the commentary reported through the business is accurate and succinct.
  • Accountability to ensure blast vibration monitoring is compliant with the MTC environment agreement and all underground stope blasts adhere to the statutory requirements of site. Responsible for proactive designs to reduce and mitigate environmental impact from blast vibration.
  • Proactively encourage reporting of all incidents and accidents, review and monitor all incident and accident reports of relevant area ensuring investigations and follow up actions are correctly implemented and completed to ensure that the Occupational Health and Safety Act is complied with at all times.
  • Contribute and support the Underground Manager in facilitating Department of Mines, Industry, Regulation and Safety visits, inspections and investigations.
  • Be involved and lead a Full Potential (operational improvement) Projects to reduce operational cost or improve productivity
  • Contribute and liaise with the Senior Planning and Projects Engineer to generate detailed and accurate physical and cost Forecasts for the operation. Provide key production productivity information for building accurate operational budgets.
  • Provide leadership through management of coaching, mentoring and developmental activities to production, drill and blast engineers, graduates and other junior technical staff members driving a positive workplace culture that reflects KCGM’s Values.
  • Oversee generation of operational work plans; job hazard analysis and team based risk assessments complimentary to works.
  • Contribute to the development of strategic plans, LOM contributions and operating/capital/manpower budgets to ensure continual development of Mt Charlotte and an increase in production efficiency.
  • Accountable for effective management of specific production contractors to support the operation and the productivity output
  • Coordinate cross functional planning and information sharing with Geology and Geotechnical specialist in the Mt Charlotte team.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Bachelor of Mining Engineering or other relevant discipline and/or experience (reviewed on a case by case nature).
  • Minimum of 6 years mining experience, with at least a minimum of 3 years in an underground environment.
  • Minimum one year at a senior level in a similarly sized operation or at a supervisory level within a larger operation, with exposure to leading and coaching a team in safe production in hard rock mining
  • The ability to use integrated management systems, spreadsheet applications, word processing, high level mine planning / production software including Vulcan, Deswik and presentation programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose problems and identify potential solutions by thinking out side of the box delivering alternative outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate representatives of varying disciplines towards achieving a common objective.
  • Must reside in the Goldfields region, or willing to be relocated.
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

Preferred

  • Underground Mine Rescue experience
  • First Class Mine Managers Certificate of Competency or ability to acquire

Underground Surveyor

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking an experienced Underground Surveyor for the Mining – Underground Department for the Mt Charlotte operation. This is a residential role on a 5/2:4/3 roster.

KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

The successful candidate will provide a surveying service to the Mt Charlotte Underground Operations team.

Key accountabilities may include:

  • Ensure development drill process is continually cyclically supported by: regular development survey memo releases; constant ‘pick-ups’ and the feedback provided to the Jumbo crews and Shift bosses/Foreman.
  • Ensure production drill set-out and mark-ups are continually completed ahead of the planned drilling schedule
  • Carry out end of month process for development and stope reconciliation
  • Monitoring Program: Carry out a program of monitoring on voids, faults, joints, development over break and other areas of interest. Conduct scans on voids in and around the mine where required using appropriate technology.
  • Be involved in weekly and monthly planning process for work task generation.
  • Support the diamond drilling exploration and grade control programs through mark-up and plan generation from Geology.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Experience in Underground gold mining for a minimum of three (3) years
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence
  • Ability to attain or possess Mine Surveyors’ Certificate Grade One (1)
  • Experience with Surpac Software
  • Experience with Leica / Trimble Instruments
  • Must reside in the Goldfields region, or willing to relocate
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

Preferred

  • Experience in older underground operations with historic survey data & control via back stations, floor projections.
  • Experience with Deswik or Vulcan software.

Underground Drill & Blast Engineer

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking a Drill & Blast Engineer to join the Underground Mining team at Mt Charlotte in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

In this residential role, you will generate, schedule and implement short term Drilling, Blasting and ancillary mine plans to achieve the operational plan in a safe and cost effective manner. This involves coordinating production activities with Underground Mine Foreman to safely achieve production plans, and providing technical support to Underground Supervisors and crew members.

The role also includes daily and weekly data management for reporting purposes and stocktake management of production drill and blast consumables to ensure the operation is provided with the tools and resources to maintain the safe underground production.

The Underground Drill & Blast Engineer position is on a 5:2 / 4:3 roster.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Develop Drill and Blast plans to ensure available drilled and blasted stocks are maintained.
  • Assist with the generation of the Two Weekly Plan and provide key drilling and blasting information to Planning engineer to ensure it aligns with rolling 12 weekly plan. Ensure the schedule effectively utilises production resources and maintains ore production to meet daily and weekly production targets.
  • Successfully plan, monitor and manage the drilled and developed stocks to maintain sufficient stocks ahead of the mining plan.
  • Conduct drill consumables and explosive products stocks are maintained to meet operational requirements and ensure legislative requirements are met for explosive management.
  • Maintain and manage drill and blast contractors that support the underground production activities. Ensure conduct and management of contractors in to the KCGM standard.
  • Develop and execute work plans and instructions for minor projects and ancillary service works that support the production activities of the mine to ensure safe and efficient production of stopes.
  • Liaise with the Senior Production Engineer to ensure monthly targets are being achieved through daily and weekly plans. Conduct opportune mine projects as directed by Senior Technical Team.
  • Undertake generation of Drill and Blast design component of the pre-production mining Stope Note and ensure the correct plans are completed before production activity commences.
  • Assist the Ventilation Officer when required with Mine Ventilation planning, surveys and ventilation circuit generation and modification plans.
  • Co-ordinate production activities with Underground Mine Foreman to safely achieve production plans.
  • Provide technical support to Underground Supervisors and underground crew members when required, to assist in providing solutions to production activity challenges.
  • Prepare Daily and Weekly reports as required
  • Mining activities data base management with daily data entry for production and development activities
  • Support and train Graduate Mining Engineers

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a similar underground position
  • Bachelor of Mining or Engineering (Mining)
  • Advanced level in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience in mine design software, however, Vulcan is the preferred software package
  • Experience in a production engineering related role with exposure to underground ventilation
  • Western Australian Underground Supervisors Certificate of competency, or the ability to attain the certificate, preferred
  • Dangerous Goods Security Card or proof of application, preferred
  • Must reside in the Goldfields, or be willing to relocate to the region
  • National Police Clearance – valid within the last twelve (12) months
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

Hauling Superintendent

THE ROLE

This integral residential position is responsible for managing and providing strategic and operational leadership to the Open Pit Production Team by efficiently directing and monitoring the hauling fleet activities, ensuring all production targets are safely achieved in a coordinated, cost effective and timely manner.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Improve Safety Performance and Culture: – Lead by example; understand and implement safety systems and KCGM Safety Culture Action Plan; conduct Safety Interactions.
  • Execute Business Plan: – Deliver on annual targets with focus on KPI’s; truck utilization, payloads, tyre life and Operate for Reliability (O4R).
  • Optimise performance across departments; set clear context, expectations, standards; monitor and implement processes, policies and procedures; share best practices and coach for improvements; evaluate and measure results on a weekly basis to aid in decision making.
  • Learn from past incidents: – ensure incidents are reported and investigated; share lessons learned from incidents (internal and external) and close gaps where appropriate.
  • Improve Engagement and Retention: – Recruit for cultural fit and competence; build an inclusive and diverse team; manage unplanned leave through KCGM Absence Management Plan; ensure adequate training and development.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Minimum of ten (10) years open pits hard rock mining experience, including at least eight (8) years at a senior leadership level within a similarly sized operation or middle management in a smaller sized operation.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose problems and identify potential solutions by strategically thinking.
  • Excellent understanding of mining law and industrial relations.
  • Experience in performance management of team members enhancing team self esteem using ability to coach, mentor and influence others and ability to build a strong performing team.
  • Experience in budgeting, financial analysis, cost management and contract management.
  • Current unrestricted Quarry Managers Certificate of Competency.
  • Current unencumbered West Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.
  • Must reside within the Goldfields region, or be willing to be relocated.

Preferred

  • High level of understanding of mine operations and planning applications and the ability to use integrated management systems, spreadsheet applications, word processing, and presentation programs.
  • Formal leadership / management qualifications.

Mine Geologist

THE ROLE

Working a residential, family friendly roster (9:5), the Mine Geologist is responsible for delivering the optimal ore grade to the Mineral Processing Plant, through accurate identification of mineralisation, delineation of ore blocks, and supervision of extraction to minimize dilution. This includes scheduling, supervision of RC drilling programs, modelling of the resulting data, and providing technical support to the operational team during mining.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Design, schedule and oversee Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling programs to ensure provision of timely and accurate grade control data for analysis.
  • Undertake analysis, interpretation and modelling of data, including drill samples, resource definition plans and voids in order to accurately locate ore bodies and individual probe locations for the subsequent redevelopment and implementation of dig plans. As part of this process, examine Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) data and follow up on any issues with the laboratory in order to validate results used in estimation.
  • Coordinate and assist in the ore mark-up process to ensure easy identification of ore and waste blocks. In addition, provide support and training to Graduate Geologists to assist their development to becoming active members of the Grade Control team.
  • Design, implement and mark out access ways for production equipment to access blasted zones.
  • Monitor and adjust, via ore spotting, the ore extraction process to ensure the dig plan is correctly followed and minimise the risk of ore loss and ore dilution.
  • Coordinate the planning, implementation and monitoring of sample schedules to ensure accurate data is available for analysis.
  • Prepare weekly reports by collecting mining data to identify mining physicals and attainment to plan.
  • Prepare weekly grade control drilling and mining schedules with supervision from the Senior Mine Geologist.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Tertiary qualification in Geology
  • Two (2) years’ experience in an Open Pit mining environment
  • One (1) years’ experience in Grade Control
  • Underground experience is desired but not essential.
  • Experience with 3D mining software, eg Vulcan
  • Developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation
  • Sound problem solving ability
  • National Police Clearance – valid within the last twelve (12) months
  • Must reside locally in the Goldfields region, or willing to relocate
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian Manual “C” Class Drivers Licence
  • Light Rigid or Heavy Rigid licence is preferred, or ability to obtain if successful
