Underground Miner 1 - Jumbo, Bogger, Trucks, Charge Up, Service Crew

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking experienced underground all rounders to join the Mining Mt Charlotte Department at the Superpit operation in Kalgoorlie.

KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

This is a residential role based on a 5:2 Dayshift, 4:3 Nightshift roster, working 10 hour shifts. (please note, changes to roster may occur).

This position will see you operating a variety of mobile plant and machinery over several different areas underground, for example truck, nipper, service crew, charge up, to bogger and jumbo, establishing and maintaining underground services, as well as provide generic labouring assistance to ensure production targets are achieved safely and efficiently.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Minimum seven (7) years experience in an underground Mining environment
  • Minimum five (5) years operating Jumbos, Boggers and Charge Up
  • Experience operating Underground Trucks and nippering, plus service crew
  • Current Dangerous Goods Security Card
  • WA Shotfirers Permit
  • Strong safety focus and excellent work ethic
  • Western Australian Underground Supervisors Certificate of competency highly regarded
  • Must reside locally within the Goldfields region
  • National Police Clearance (valid within the last 12 months)
  • Current unencumbered Western Australian “MR” or above Class Drivers Licence.

Project Exploration Geologist

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking a Project Exploration Geologist to join the Technical Services & Projects Department at the Superpit and Mt Charlotte Operations in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

Working a residential, family friendly roster (5:2/4:3), the Project Exploration Geologist is responsible for designing and supervising the execution and interpretation of exploration programs and projects that add value to existing resources, locating the next viable ore bodies, and extending the KCGM Life of Mine.

Key accountabilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the elimination of injuries in the workplace and the maintenance of KCGM’s “Social License to Operate”.
  • Provide leadership through the coaching and mentoring of Exploration Geologists and Exploration Geotechnicians and promote a positive workplace culture that reflects KCGM’s Core Values.
  • Take accountability for the design of and adherence to Work Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures for common work tasks undertaken by the Exploration team.
  • Design and supervise the execution of drilling programs and other exploration projects. Oversee data quality control and interpretation and provide recommendations for future work programs on the basis of results.
  • Supervise contractors, demanding adherence to all relevant environmental, safety and security measures.
  • Contribute to geological core logging and the instruction of Exploration Geotechnicians in sample preparation in accordance with current Standard Operation Procedures.
  • Liaise as necessary with the contracted assay laboratories to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of assay results.
  • Ensure Departmental compliance with statutory acts, regulations and consent conditions.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience as an Exploration Geologist.
  • Tertiary qualification in Geology.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • Experience with ArcGIS, Vulcan, Leapfrog and ioGAS software or equivalent programs.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
  • Must reside in the Goldfields region.
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

Preferred

  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Mine Geologist.
  • Experience in Achaean gold systems.
  • Honors or Master’s Degree in Geology

Process Controller

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking an experienced process controller to join the Processing Department at the Superpit operation in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

This is a residential role on a 2 days, 2 nights, 4 off roster, working 12 hour shifts. Location is interchangeable between Gidji or Fimiston.

As a Process Controller, you would be responsible for monitoring the operations, processes and equipment within the Gidji or Fimiston Plant via the process control system to optimise plant availability and support the achievement of metallurgical and production targets.

Key accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure Shift Supervisor is aware of maintenance requirements on the shift to enable shift planning and if required to follow up with Maintenance Department to ensure optimal productivity is maintained.
  • Provide Process Technicians with sufficient process control information to enable them to effectively manage their workstations to ensure optimal productivity is maintained.
  • Provide daily reporting of significant changes to any process so Metallurgists, Production Coordinator, Shift Supervisor and Production Superintendent are appropriately informed of plant performance
  • Issue Hand Over Permits for maintenance of equipment and implement plant emergency procedure as required to ensure that compliance obligations are met and to minimise risk associated with working environment to Mineral Processing, Engineering and Maintenance employees and contractors.
  • Central contact for communications outside and within the plant to enable communication being dealt with immediately or efficiently directed to the correct person.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years working in mineral processing or related industry
  • Demonstrated ability to identify potential problems and react in a timely manner with a proven solution
  • Ability to use integrated control systems and spreadsheet applications
  • Completion of KCGM Process Technician Competency Tests
  • Nationally Accredited Forklift Licence
  • Must reside in the Goldfields region for this residential position
  • National Police Clearance within twelve (12) months
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

Preferred

  • Good process analysis and technical problem solving skills.
  • Leadership and /or Supervisory training.
  • Metalliferous Mining Certificate or equivalent, and/or working towards achieving qualifications.

Process Technician

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking an experienced process technician to join the Processing Department at the Superpit operation in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

This is a residential role on a 2 days, 2 nights, 4 off roster, working 12 hour shifts.

As a Process Technician, you will undertake daily general plant activities in both the Fimiston Mineral Processing Plant and Gidji Operations. This will include monitoring and maintaining assigned operations and equipment within the plants to optimize circuit availability and gold recovery, safely and efficiently.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Maintain constant surveillance of assigned work stations to ensure effective and efficient operations of the plant in a safe manner.
  • Report all mechanical and electrical problems to the Shift Supervisor and Process Controller to ensure safe operation of the plant and to maintain productivity.
  • Conduct clean-up duties where required to ensure plant equipment is functioning properly and safely.
  • Perform basic reactive maintenance on plant equipment to ensure productivity is maintained.
  • Assist in the review of Standard Operating Procedures to ensure they are reflective of work performed and required.
  • Collect and record routine readings and analyze samples within the plant for Quality Assurance Quality Control (QAQC) purposes.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of two (2) years experience in a similar Process technician or Utilities technician position
  • Current Working at Heights and Confined Space tickets within two (2) years of age
  • A solid mechanical aptitude
  • Metalliferous Mining qualifications or study thereto highly regarded
  • High Risk Licenses (LF, LS, WP) highly regarded, but not essential
  • Developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills
  • Ability to work in outdoors conditions, completing regular active tasks
  • Must reside locally within the Goldfields region
  • National Police Clearance – valid within the last twelve (12) months

Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor for the Processing Department at the Superpit. This is a residential role on a 5/2:4/3 roster.

KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

The successful candidate will supervise and lead the team of mechanical maintenance technicians to KCGM standards in a safe, timely, cost effective and environmentally responsible manner to maintain plant availability.

Key accountabilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide leadership through coaching, mentoring and developmental activities to members of the team driving a positive workplace culture that reflects KCGM’s Core Values.
  • Lead effective Pre Start meetings to prepare the team to safely achieve the work of the shift ahead. Ensure that accountability statements include a “why” component. Otherwise, they are just tasks.
  • Review and sign off all JHAs for work under my control, ensuring that all material risks have been identified and mitigated
  • Ensure my team has adequate, effective HSR representation, and that HSRs have the time, support and resources to comply with the requirements of the role.
  • Understand the daily plan and prioritise the work. Consistently provide context for whole team so that they understand how their work relates to the strategy and performance of KCGM.
  • Ensure that all incidents and accidents are reported and are followed up correctly to minimise and manage risk and oversee investigations where required, ensuring that the Occupational Health and Safety Act is complied with at all times. Ensure all reasonable steps are taken to assist in identifying and providing an injured employee with suitable duties whilst they are on a return to work plan.
  • Engage team members in effective problem solving including “Go, Look, See and Listen” to understand the issues. Listen to, and follow up appropriately, on team members’ suggestions and feedback.
  • Management of all mechanical maintenance contractors, ensuring that planned scopes of work are completed safely, on time, efficiently and in a cost effective manner.
  • Review, sign-off and execute weekly maintenance schedule to ensure all maintenance activities are prioritised and managed effectively. Has the authority to prioritise jobs.
  • Report on Key Performance Indicators (K.P.I.’s) to assess compliance to the schedule and associated work efficiencies.
  • Assist in developing annual budget with support from the Maintenance Coordinator and Planner. Report actual costs versus budget on a monthly basis and explain variances to ensure all financial information is captured throughout the process.
  • Manage annual leave, sick leave, etc. Capacity planning for the crew. Manage the roster of shift maintainers to ensure coverage at all times, with the authority of approving annual leave.
  • Update the crew’s training matrix and ensure that all direct reports are completing an appropriate level of training to be deemed competent for all tasks that they are assigned.
  • Initiate and implement plant improvement trials using to ensure continuous improvement.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Minimum of five (5) years practical experience in a maintenance environment, preferably in mining/heavy industry.
  • Minimum of two (2) years frontline supervisory experience, preferably in a mining/ heavy industry environment.
  • Required to be on-call for the maintenance team on a shared rotating roster.
  • Required to work twelve (12) hour shifts during plant shutdown periods.
  • Trades Certificate and/or Degree in Engineering.
  • Intermediate computer software skills – MS Office Suite (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, MS Outlook).
  • Oracle, SAP, JDE, EMPAC or similar CMMS.
  • Leadership and/or supervisory training or experience in similar.
  • Experience in the budgeting process and effective cost management.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose problems and identify potential solutions.
  • Exposure to performance management of team members using ability to coach, mentor and influence others.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills enabling liaison at all levels of the organisation.
  • Must reside in the Goldfields region
  • National Police Clearance within 12 months of age
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence

Preferred

  • Experience with computer-based maintenance planning/scheduling.
  • Experience working in a minerals processing plant.
  • Zero-Based Budgeting (ZBB) principles.
  • Condition monitoring practices such as oil analysis, vibration analysis, ultrasonic testing, thermography, etc.
  • Proficiency in conducting failure analysis and in the use of root cause investigation techniques.

Utilities Technician

THE ROLE

As a Utilities Technician you will undertake daily general plant activities in the Fimiston and Gidji Mineral Processing Plants to ensure a high level of housekeeping and shutdown preparation to contribute to meeting shutdown schedules and supporting the optimum recovery of gold, safely and efficiently.
This role entails working in a predominantly outdoors environment, working a 5/2 residential roster, 9 hours per day.

Tailings Dam Operator

THE ROLE

This role is responsible for ensuring Tailing Dams are operated and maintained in accordance with KCGM’s environmental and safety standards. This is a fantastic opportunity for candidates with previous tailings experience or some general operating experience wanting to take the next step with their career.

Key Accountabilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure that all incidents and accidents are reported and are followed up correctly to minimize and manage risk and assist with investigations where required, ensuring that the Occupational Health and Safety Act is complied with at all times.
  • Control the deposition of tailings in accordance with operating procedures, and meets all specifications
  • Maintain tailings freeboard levels to ensure water levels do not exceed specifications limits.
  • Complete decanting as required and meet all environmental requirements.
  • Complete tailings line decoupling and re-coupling associated with wall lifts to ensure they are maintained to adhere to operational and safety standards.
  • Maintain the condition of all roads, ramps and bunding to set safety standards, in the area around the Tailings Dam.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of one year working experience in an industrial/labour intensive working environment
  • Ability to work autonomously in a predominantly outdoors environment
  • High risk Work License highly regarded – Fork Lift, Backhoe, EWP
  • Attention to detail and observation skills
  • Good practical mechanical ability

Geologist

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking Geologists to join the Technical Services & Projects Department at the Superpit and Mt Charlotte Operations in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

Working a residential, family friendly roster (8:6), the Geologists are responsible for a variety of geological-based tasks, which may include, but are not limited to:

  • Delivering the optimal ore grade to the Mineral Processing Plant, through accurate identification of mineralisation, delineation of ore blocks, and supervision of extraction to minimise dilution.
  • Conducting exploration which could lead to discovering viable ore bodies which will increase KCGM’s Life Of Mine.
  • Scheduling, supervision of RC drilling programs, modelling of the resulting data, core logging and data entry, and providing technical support to the operational team during mining.

These roles can be based in the Open Pit, Underground and with the Exploration teams, and provide a variety of support to the technical services and projects team across site.

  • Tertiary qualification in Geology

  • Experience with 3D mining software – eg Vulcan

Shotfirer

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking a Shotfirer to join the Mining Open Pits team in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

This residential position is responsible for carrying out Open Pit charging and blasting activities safely and in accordance with the blast plan at our Fimiston Open pit. This role involves working primarily in the Fimiston open pit, with regular office based tasks, and is a very active and physical role.

Indigenous Traineeship - Processing (Fixed Term)

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is excited to be offering a Trainee Processing position to join the Services Department in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

The successful candidates will learn a range of skills by undertaking a variety of daily general plant activities in the Fimiston Mineral Processing plant, as well as Primary Crushing and the Metallurgical Laboratory. This could include Utilities, Gold Room, Process Technician in the mill, Laboratory Technician, possibly Gold Room attending, and would suit candidates who enjoy working in a more hands-on, physical role or outdoors, instead of indoors.

This residential traineeship will follow the same roster-pattern for each department the incumbent will work within, for example; 4 on, 4 off – 12 hour shifts for the process technician roster, or 5 on, 2 off – 10 hour shifts for the utilities technicians, so on and so forth, and will rotate through the different areas during the traineeship.

This twelve month fixed-term contract will result in the attainment of an official Certificate, for example Cert III Resources/Processing, Cert III Laboratory Techniques, or similar qualification via Tafe and Work.

Underground Shift Supervisor

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking an experienced Underground Shift Supervisor for the Mining Underground Department at the Mt Charlotte Operation. This is a residential role on a 5/2 dayshift :4/3 night shift roster.

KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

The successful candidate will supervise underground production and development personnel and activities to ensure that all targets are achieved in a coordinated, cost effective, timely and safe manner.

Key accountabilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee safety practices and participate in safety investigations to ensure site safety policies and procedures are adhered to and all risks associated with the working environment of Mt Charlotte employees and contractors is minimized.
  • Fulfil legislative requirements expected of an Underground Shift Supervisor under the Mine Safety Inspection Act (1994) and Regulations (1995)
  • Coordinate and assign the daily activities of all underground production and development personnel to ensure production targets are achieved in a safe and efficient manner
  • Report significant changes or events to any process or activity to the Mt Charlotte Technical staff to ensure all key stakeholders are appropriately informed.
  • Identify and facilitate training opportunities for underground employees to ensure they are competent in their assigned tasks and to assist with succession planning.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • A minimum five (5) years underground mining experience
  • A minimum two (2) years experience in a supervisory role in a similarly sized operation or at foreman level within a larger operation
  • Demonstrated ability to react and diagnose problems to accurately identify and implement potential solutions in a timely manner
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills enabling liaison at all levels of the underground operation.

Senior Exploration Geologist

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking a Senior Exploration Geologist to join the Technical Services & Projects Department at the Superpit operation in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

This is a residential role on a 5:2/4:3 roster.

This role will be expected to manage the Exploration team and Exploration programs, add value to existing resources, participate in the identification of the next viable ore bodies, and to extend the KCGM Life of Mine (LOM). Focus upon targeting, program design and execution of exploration projects on time and within budget.

Key accountabilities may involve:

  • Actively demonstrate, and lead by example, the operation of all environmental, safety and security measures for the protection of all staff, the environment, and the security of company assets and consumables.

  • Generate and promote exploration (wingspan and brownfields) targets which align with KCGM’s exploration strategy and LOM production profile.
  • Design RAB/AC, RC and diamond (surface and underground) drill programs to test exploration targets.
  • Execution of exploration projects aimed at optimising operation’s LOM, to ensure that they are completed to plan, on time and within budget.
  • Ensure all geological data is captured accurately and efficiently. Data needs to be stored in the KCGM database.
  • Manage the administrative components of the execution of drill programs.
  • Ensure QAQC of assay data and downhole surveys (and associated reports) is completed and processes align with KCGM standards.
  • Manage the development of exploration geological models that conform to the requirements of the Joint Venture Owners’ project pipeline definitions, and in accordance with Exploration plans and schedules. Lead the interpretation of exploration information as it is generated.
  • Report regularly to the Exploration Superintendent on any and all geological, project execution, technical, safety and environmental matters pertaining to project development.
  • Management of Business Partner relationships (e.g. drilling, earthworks, water / rock suppliers), and ensure all Business Partners are complying with KCGM policies, procedures and standards at all times.
  • Lead the continuous improvement of the Exploration Management Operating System (MOS), to ensure that clearly defined processes are functional and maintained to manage risks and opportunities, and that the exploration information is collected, recorded and organised accurately to enable results to be further refined and potential future drill targets to be identified.
  • Actively manage the relationship between Exploration and all KCGM functional areas that are affected directly or indirectly by exploration activities (e.g. Environmental and Social Responsibility). Lead and continually seek to improve these cross-functional relationships through the Exploration MOS.
  • Under the guidance of the Senior Technical Geologist, participation in the development of exploration target strategy and definition.
  • Assist the Exploration Superintendent in the preparation of annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and preparation of purchase and service orders commensurate with role.
  • Oversee and submit regular exploration reports (quarterly, monthly, weekly) to meet corporate and legal compliance requirements.
  • Actively participate in aspects of Tenement Management required to obtain government approval and permission for ground disturbance, and ensure that statutory exploration reporting requirements are adhered to.
  • Participate in the development of personal training strategies and undertake appropriate training modules.
  • Undertake safety investigations as directed to ensure that incidents and/or injuries are fully reviewed in a timely manner and corrective actions are identified and allocated appropriately.

Senior Drilling Supervisor

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking a Senior Drilling Supervisor to join the Technical Services & Projects Department at the Superpit operation in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

This is a residential role on a 5:2/4:3 roster.

This role will be responsible in monitoring and advising the drilling Contractors to ensure that all drilling programs at KCGM are executed safely, with optimal productivity and in compliance with the requirements of Newmont’s Exploration Drilling Standard. Importantly, as a drilling subject matter expert, the Senior Drilling Supervisor provides guidance and mentorship to the Geology team in the fields of drill-related planning, safety, plod and invoice auditing and productivity optimisation.

Key accountabilities may involve:

  • Advise on, develop and implement effective safety policy for all drilling-related activities undertaken on site.
  • Conduct regular field-based safety interactions and critical control verifications with drilling contractors ensuring that improvement opportunities are captured in Cintellate with appropriate actions to be tracked, verified and closed out.
  • Develop, implement and champion an audit regime covering procedure and equipment to ensure that KCGM is at all times compliant with the Newmont Exploration Drilling Standard.
  • Develop and maintain the necessary registers for Fatality Risk Management and the Exploration Drilling Standard requirements.
  • Be intimately involved in the verification of drill plods and invoices for validity against the program executed and the active drill contracts.
  • Analyze data captured in DrillCost to identify opportunities for improvement in driller performance, minimization of standby and directional drilling time and optimisation of maintenance schedules. Establish and communicate benchmarks for performance and support the development and implementation of improvement projects.
  • Participate in drilling Contractor toolbox meetings and Geology safety meetings to ensure that all relevant successes and opportunities for improvement are effectively communicated, and that feedback from the Contractor is registered and actioned upon where necessary.
  • Participate in regular contract review meetings with drilling Contractors on behalf of KCGM to ensure that communication regarding drill program-related issues are effectively conveyed and received.
  • Oversee the mobilization and demobilization of drill Contractor equipment and teams, including any necessary change management, to ensure that the processes are completed safely, smoothly and in accordance with KCGM policy.
  • Assume an advisory role as a subject matter expert in all safety investigations regarding incidents/injuries associated with the drilling programs.
  • Liaise closely with colleagues from elsewhere in the Company and industry to ensure that lessons are captured and issues are shared and escalated to management where appropriate.
  • Assess drilling Contractor equipment maintenance plans for content, validity and achievability.
  • Develop and implement a mentoring program for KCGM Geologists on all of the above accountabilities to improve the drilling knowledgebase of the team and optimise future drilling programs from the planning stage through all aspects of program execution.

Graduate Underground Mine Engineer

The successful candidate will assist in the provision of a variety of services pertaining to mine ventilation as it is intended that the incumbent obtain the necessary practical experience to qualify for a WA Underground Shift Supervisor or First Class Mine Manager Certificate of Competency. Further practical experience within production engineering, drill and blast design, short and long term planning and obtaining training in data management, reporting and tracking is intended to be developed upon completion of practical operating experience.

Key accountabilities may include:

  • Complete practical underground experience, including the operation of various mobile plant in a safe and effective manner, including but not limited to, Atlas Copco 5010 Trucks, CAT/Elphinstone 2900 and 1700 Loaders, CAT Integrated Toolcarriers and the Atlas Copco H1357/M7C Simba Long Hole Drill; Stope and Development Charge-up and Service Crew duties.
  • Assist the Ventilation Officer in performing both primary and secondary surveys of underground ventilation systems as per operational and legislative requirements.
  • Undertake simulations of ventilation models and run associated scenarios, to maintain emergency response preparedness.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities for the development of ventilation models, in order to determine the optimum method of establishing a ventilation framework.
  • Undertake ventilation projects, as required, to further develop existing mine ventilation efficiency and reliability.
  • Update mine ventilation system data in existing mine design software to ensure the availability of accurate ventilation information for relevant Mining Engineers and the Safety/Training Coordinator.
  • Establish and maintain a ventilation location board, to ensure the ready access of ventilation system information for all employees and contractors.
  • Assist the Production Engineer in other duties as required. This includes, but is not limited to production planning and scheduling, drill and blast design and explosives management.

Underground Senior Drill and Blast Engineer

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking an experienced Underground Senior Drill and Blast Engineer for the Mining – Underground Department for the Superpit. This is a residential role on a 5/2:4/3 roster.

KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

The successful candidate will oversee planning and coordination of all underground (UG) operational and technical production activities to ensure resource availability is maximized, and to achieve the budget plan in a cost effective, timely and safe manner.

Key accountabilities may include:

  • Hold appointed Underground Manager ticket as a Deputy to the Underground Superintendent when required.
  • Act as Engineering Superintendent when required to lead the technical group and support the UGM
  • Accountable for generation of comprehensive stope note documents for the future stopes, with the focus to deliver reviewed stope mining plans prior to scheduled production activities for that stope.
  • Generate and complete stope reconciliation and analysis to determine the stope performance and highlight areas of risk and opportunities in future stopes.
  • Accountability for generation of detailed weekly plan that ensure weekly development, production, ancillary and maintenance activities are aligned to the medium term plan and support the long term strategy for the mine.
  • Responsible for weekly reporting of operational performance and high level analysis of areas that are a risk or opportunity to the business. Supporting and liaising with the Underground Manager to ensure the commentary reported through the business is accurate and succinct.
  • Accountability to ensure blast vibration monitoring is compliant with the MTC environment agreement and all underground stope blasts adhere to the statutory requirements of site. Responsible for proactive designs to reduce and mitigate environmental impact from blast vibration.
  • Proactively encourage reporting of all incidents and accidents, review and monitor all incident and accident reports of relevant area ensuring investigations and follow up actions are correctly implemented and completed to ensure that the Occupational Health and Safety Act is complied with at all times.
  • Contribute and support the Underground Manager in facilitating Department of Mines, Industry, Regulation and Safety visits, inspections and investigations.
  • Be involved and lead a Full Potential (operational improvement) Projects to reduce operational cost or improve productivity
  • Contribute and liaise with the Senior Planning and Projects Engineer to generate detailed and accurate physical and cost Forecasts for the operation. Provide key production productivity information for building accurate operational budgets.
  • Provide leadership through management of coaching, mentoring and developmental activities to production, drill and blast engineers, graduates and other junior technical staff members driving a positive workplace culture that reflects KCGM’s Values.
  • Oversee generation of operational work plans; job hazard analysis and team based risk assessments complimentary to works.
  • Contribute to the development of strategic plans, LOM contributions and operating/capital/manpower budgets to ensure continual development of Mt Charlotte and an increase in production efficiency.
  • Accountable for effective management of specific production contractors to support the operation and the productivity output
  • Coordinate cross functional planning and information sharing with Geology and Geotechnical specialist in the Mt Charlotte team.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Bachelor of Mining Engineering or other relevant discipline and/or experience (reviewed on a case by case nature).
  • Minimum of 6 years mining experience, with at least a minimum of 3 years in an underground environment.
  • Minimum one year at a senior level in a similarly sized operation or at a supervisory level within a larger operation, with exposure to leading and coaching a team in safe production in hard rock mining
  • The ability to use integrated management systems, spreadsheet applications, word processing, high level mine planning / production software including Vulcan, Deswik and presentation programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose problems and identify potential solutions by thinking out side of the box delivering alternative outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate representatives of varying disciplines towards achieving a common objective.

Underground Drill & Blast Engineer

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking a Drill & Blast Engineer to join the Underground Mining team at Mt Charlotte in Kalgoorlie. KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

In this residential role, you will generate, schedule and implement short term Drilling, Blasting and ancillary mine plans to achieve the operational plan in a safe and cost effective manner. This involves coordinating production activities with Underground Mine Foreman to safely achieve production plans, and providing technical support to Underground Supervisors and crew members.

The role also includes daily and weekly data management for reporting purposes and stocktake management of production drill and blast consumables to ensure the operation is provided with the tools and resources to maintain the safe underground production.

The Underground Drill & Blast Engineer position is on a 5:2 / 4:3 roster.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Develop Drill and Blast plans to ensure available drilled and blasted stocks are maintained.
  • Assist with the generation of the Two Weekly Plan and provide key drilling and blasting information to Planning engineer to ensure it aligns with rolling 12 weekly plan. Ensure the schedule effectively utilises production resources and maintains ore production to meet daily and weekly production targets.
  • Successfully plan, monitor and manage the drilled and developed stocks to maintain sufficient stocks ahead of the mining plan.
  • Conduct drill consumables and explosive products stocks are maintained to meet operational requirements and ensure legislative requirements are met for explosive management.
  • Maintain and manage drill and blast contractors that support the underground production activities. Ensure conduct and management of contractors in to the KCGM standard.
  • Develop and execute work plans and instructions for minor projects and ancillary service works that support the production activities of the mine to ensure safe and efficient production of stopes.
  • Liaise with the Senior Production Engineer to ensure monthly targets are being achieved through daily and weekly plans. Conduct opportune mine projects as directed by Senior Technical Team.
  • Undertake generation of Drill and Blast design component of the pre-production mining Stope Note and ensure the correct plans are completed before production activity commences.
  • Assist the Ventilation Officer when required with Mine Ventilation planning, surveys and ventilation circuit generation and modification plans.
  • Co-ordinate production activities with Underground Mine Foreman to safely achieve production plans.
  • Provide technical support to Underground Supervisors and underground crew members when required, to assist in providing solutions to production activity challenges.
  • Prepare Daily and Weekly reports as required
  • Mining activities data base management with daily data entry for production and development activities
  • Support and train Graduate Mining Engineers

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a similar underground position
  • Bachelor of Mining or Engineering (Mining)
  • Advanced level in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience in mine design software, however, Vulcan is the preferred software package
  • Experience in a production engineering related role with exposure to underground ventilation
  • Western Australian Underground Supervisors Certificate of competency, or the ability to attain the certificate, preferred
  • Dangerous Goods Security Card or proof of application, preferred
  • Must reside in the Goldfields, or be willing to relocate to the region
  • National Police Clearance – valid within the last twelve (12) months
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence.

Production Scheduler

THE ROLE

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines Pty Ltd (KCGM) is currently seeking an experienced Production Scheduler for the Mining Open Pits Department at the Superpit. This is a residential role on a 8/6 roster, working 12 hour day shifts.

KCGM is a joint venture between Newmont Australia and Barrick Gold Corporation.

The successful candidate will provide technical and scheduling support to Mining Operations to achieve the daily, monthly & annual Mine Plan. This role is expected to add value through identifying opportunities and developing new methodologies to achieve above target results. The role’s purpose is to coordinate the Planning activities with other stakeholders and ensure the mine plan is executed in a timely and safe manner within the guidelines of statutory requirements and KCGM standards.

Key accountabilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Influences a broad range of stakeholders to ensure the effective and efficient equipment utilization which is critical to the achievement of the Mining Operations and Maintenance Targets. This is achieved by working closely with the Open Pit Supervisors, Planning Engineers and Mobile Maintenance Supervisors.
  • Contribute to the development of the fortnightly mine schedule in order to meet changing operational circumstances and requirements
  • Support execution of the short to medium (< 3 months) mine plans and contribute to long term mine plans
  • Where mining plan variances are identified, create and implement appropriate mitigation strategies. Contribute to the delivery of the monthly ore and waste targets.
  • Ability to problem solve within broadly defined policies and objectives is essential
  • Ability to develop new methodologies to contribute to the mining operation team goals
  • Engaging peers and stakeholders in effective problem solving and planning
  • Utilizing the appropriate systems to ensure processes are in place and are operating effectively in all areas of open pit mining operations.
  • Liaise with Geotechnical Engineering team to ensure wall scaling and clean-ups completed to a high standard and in a timely manner
  • Report relevant production & planning metrics to the Mine Operations Superintendent
  • Identifying, and where relevant, undertaking Continuous Improvement projects to increase mining operations functions.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of five (5) years experience including operation of machinery in an open pit mining or quarry environment.
  • Strong understanding of mining sequence process and activities.
  • Experience in performance management of team members enhancing team self-esteem with the ability to coach, mentor and influence others
  • Must reside in the Goldfields region
  • National Police Clearance – valid within twelve (12) months
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian “MR” Class Drivers Licence.

Mine Geologist

THE ROLE

Working a residential, family friendly roster (9:5), the Mine Geologist is responsible for delivering the optimal ore grade to the Mineral Processing Plant, through accurate identification of mineralisation, delineation of ore blocks, and supervision of extraction to minimize dilution. This includes scheduling, supervision of RC drilling programs, modelling of the resulting data, and providing technical support to the operational team during mining.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Design, schedule and oversee Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling programs to ensure provision of timely and accurate grade control data for analysis.
  • Undertake analysis, interpretation and modelling of data, including drill samples, resource definition plans and voids in order to accurately locate ore bodies and individual probe locations for the subsequent redevelopment and implementation of dig plans. As part of this process, examine Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) data and follow up on any issues with the laboratory in order to validate results used in estimation.
  • Coordinate and assist in the ore mark-up process to ensure easy identification of ore and waste blocks. In addition, provide support and training to Graduate Geologists to assist their development to becoming active members of the Grade Control team.
  • Design, implement and mark out access ways for production equipment to access blasted zones.
  • Monitor and adjust, via ore spotting, the ore extraction process to ensure the dig plan is correctly followed and minimise the risk of ore loss and ore dilution.
  • Coordinate the planning, implementation and monitoring of sample schedules to ensure accurate data is available for analysis.
  • Prepare weekly reports by collecting mining data to identify mining physicals and attainment to plan.
  • Prepare weekly grade control drilling and mining schedules with supervision from the Senior Mine Geologist.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Tertiary qualification in Geology
  • Two (2) years’ experience in an Open Pit mining environment
  • One (1) years’ experience in Grade Control
  • Underground experience is desired but not essential.
  • Experience with 3D mining software, eg Vulcan
  • Developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation
  • Sound problem solving ability
  • National Police Clearance – valid within the last twelve (12) months
  • Must reside locally in the Goldfields region, or willing to relocate
  • Current Unencumbered Western Australian Manual “C” Class Drivers Licence
  • Light Rigid or Heavy Rigid licence is preferred, or ability to obtain if successful
