Golden Mile Gold

The historic Golden Mile is located on the outskirts of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, WA.
Since 1893, when Irishman Paddy Hannan started the rush that led to the discovery of the famous Mile, more than 50 million ounces of gold have been harvested from the area which is now incorporated in the Super Pit.

Purchase your own piece of the Golden Mile in the form of a gold nugget or splatter. Each piece is individually packaged in a unique jarrah box and has a its certificate of authenticity.

Nuggets

Most of the gold nuggets and specimens recovered on the Golden Mile found their way into the refinery at the Perth Mint. Very few have survived.  That’s what makes Golden Mile Gold so special.  Surface prospecting continues on very limited areas not yet part of the Super Pit, and once these are worked, there will be no more.
Gold nuggets are unique and no two are alike. The nuggets sold at the Shop are guaranteed authentic Golden Mile gold, and occur naturally with approximately 90% gold, 8% silver and 2% copper.
Splatters
The old timers did an excellent job of removing the coarse gold during the ninety years of underground mining on the Golden Mile.  The gold KCGM extracts now is not visible to the naked eye.  It has to be processed, concentrated and eventually poured into gold bars.
Straight from the Fimiston Gold room at KCGM are gold ‘splatters’.  To pour gold bars, moulds are arranged in a configuration called a cascade.  A splatter is formed when the gold runs down the cascade, and stops flowing along the lip of the mould.
Like gold nuggets, every splatter is totally unique.  KCGM splatters range between 75-80% pure which is equivalent to 18 carat gold and can be used as display pieces or for jewellery.

Boulder Market Day

Boulder Market Day is the 3rd Sunday of every month and this is when the famous Burt St, the heart of Boulder, comes alive with a variety of market stalls, food and entertainment. The very popular one hour Super Pit tours run at 10:00,10:30,11:00 & 11.30am and depart from the Super Pit Shop.

Jump on the bus to get a first hand look inside the KCGM mining operations. Sit back and learn about Australia’s largest gold mine from one of our knowledgeable tour guides. The tour takes you through the KCGM Black Street security gates past the mine site offices, Fimiston Mill, Workshop Yard and to an internal lookout on the South Eastern side of the Super Pit. At the internal lookout, passengers are able to get out of the bus and view the operation from a different perspective than the public lookout.

The tours last for approximately an hour and are free of charge if collected on the day of the tour and depart from the Super Pit Shop. However, tickets are limited and go fast, so to guarantee your seats you can purchase tickets the week prior from the Super Pit Shop, for $5 each or $10 for a family of four (two adults and two children). Please note, that it is a requirement that all passengers wear fully enclosed shoes for the tour.
