KCGM sponsors a range of organisations around the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. In this section, we outline some of these programs and how they are going.
Saint Barbara’s Festival Parade (Saturday 5th December 2009)
The City’s streets came alive as the 2009 Saint Barbara’s Festival descended upon Kalgoorlie-Boulder in December. From its humble beginnings some ten years ago, the Festival has grown in size, stature and reputation to become one of the most unique celebrations in Australia.
The Festival kicked off with the Miner’s Memorial Service in St Barbara’s Square on December 3rd, to remember those tragically killed while working on Goldfields mine sites. More than 150 people gathered to commemorate those lost and to renew the industry’s commitment to being injury and fatality free.
It was then onwards to Saturday December 5th for the annual St Barbara’s Parade rumbling its way down Hannan Street!
The Parade came in all its’ usual splendor - a fantastic, colourful display of mining related equipment and sensational community floats. But the star of the show was KCGM’s specially commissioned dump truck painted blue to raise money and awareness for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
HELP Christmas Appeal (December 2009)
The KCGM workforce dug deep into their pockets and pantries for those less fortunate over Christmas!
KCGM formed a partnership with the H.E.L.P Christmas Appeal five years ago to provide food and toy hampers to Goldfields people in need during the festive season.
Over the month of December, KCGM employees and contractors jumped on board by enthusiastically donating non-perishable food items, toys and anything they felt would help the needy at Christmas time.
Thanks to the generosity of the KCGM workforce, goodies (for more than 200 hampers) and a total of $5,413.00 was raised for H.E.L.P.
Making a Splash at the Swim Thru (7th November 2009)
KCGM employees exchanged their steel caps for flippers as they descended on the Goldfields Oasis for the 10th Annual RFDS Swim Thru on November 7th.
The Swim Thru is held each year to raise much needed money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia and to promote all that is great about living a healthy lifestyle!
“KCGM eagerly got behind the Swim Thru after the RFDS approached us to be the Major Sponsor,” said Brooke Martin, Community Relations Officer.
“KCGM’s support of the RFDS Swim Thru through sponsorship and staff participation in previous years has made a great impact on the success of our event,” said Rebekah Thomson, RFDS Visitor Centre & Fundraising Coordinator.
KCGM committed $9000.00 to the event.
