Anne Petz - Chairperson

Anne has lived in Kalgoorlie for over 42 years, has two daughters also living in the region and was the owner of a small business, Boulder’s Leading Edge Video for 22 years before it was sold in 2002. Anne has five grandchildren who were raised in the Goldfields and enjoys looking after them in her spare time.

Anne is a councillor for the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and was named Citizen of the Year in 2008 by the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce & Industry. She is still actively involved in several organisations including the Palace Theatre Recreation Centre, Golden Mile Loopline Railway Society, Kalgoorlie-Boulder Urban Landcare Group and Artgold Inc.

Anne became a CRG member in 2001 in order to be a channel between KCGM and the public.

Tony Stephenson 

Originally from Tasmania, Tony has been a Kalgoorlie resident for over 15 years. He enjoys vintage cars and gardening and counts his proudest achievement as getting the inaugural Australia Marbles Championship to be held in Kalgoorlie.

Tony has worked for a number of local organisations and is currently positioned at the Red Cross. He is also involved in a number of community groups including the Kalgoorlie Lions Club, Kalgoorlie Local Drug Action Group and Toastmasters.

A member of the CRG since 2008, Tony feels that the role allows him to communicate to the region, what the company is doing and what it hopes to achieve.

Murray Joyce

Murray is a lifelong Kalgoorlie local. He has been married for over 40 years, raised his two children in the region and is the owner of local small business, Goldfields Television Services.

A Justice of the Peace for over 15 years, Murray is the Tribunal Co-Chairman of the Goldfields Football Commission and has a long background in the mining industry; studying engineering at the WA School of Mines in his teen years while simultaneously attaining his trade as a fitter and turner. He later became a Training Officer at the Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter in 1975 and continued working for various mining companies in the region.

As a member of the CRG since 2001, Murray feels that he belongs to both KCGM and the community and appreciates the honesty and integrity of KCGM communication to the public.

Terry Martino

As Principal of Kalgoorlie Boulder Community High School, Terry Martino is passionate about education and the community. He began his role as KBCHS principal when he moved to Kalgoorlie-Boulder with his wife at the beginning of 2010 and together they have two adult children.

Terry owns a small farm and enjoys camping and travelling around WA with his family. He is also a member of the Regional Men’s Health Initiative and lists becoming principal of Kalgoorlie Boulder Community High School as his proudest achievement.

Terry became a member of the CRG to learn more about the organisation, the relationship KCGM has with Kalgoorlie-Boulder and to contribute to the community and KCGM.

Kevin Smallhorn

Kevin has lived in Kalgoorlie for over 30 years. He married his wife in Kalgoorlie in 1962 and later raised their four children in the Goldfields. After running the family business for 23 years, Kevin went into retirement and passed the business down to his son who now works at KCGM.

Kevin has been a life member of the Lions Club for over 40 years and is an active member of the community. In his spare time, he enjoys cruising to some of the world’s best destinations with his wife Alice, but loves coming home to the City that is his home.

He is currently the longest standing member on the CRG and has been a member since it’s inception in 1999. Kevin feels that he can help the community form a better relationship with KCGM and can help communicate the concerns of local residents to the company.

Deborah Botica

Deborah was born and raised in Kalgoorlie, with a family history in the region spanning back into the 1890’s. She has five children and enjoys travelling, reading, spending time with family and friends and walking.

Deborah is the business owner of Travel World Kalgoorlie and teaches English at WA School of Mines. A city councillor and active community member, Deborah is also involved with the Goldfields Against Serious Pollution, Goldfields District Health Advisory Board, Goldfields Rehabilitation Centre and Eastern Goldfields Sexual Assault Referral Centre.

Deborah became a CRG member in 2003 to network and to be a conduit for communication to the community with no previous mining related experience.

Bill Robinson 

Bill has lived in Kalgoorlie for over 40 years but wishes he had moved here 20 years earlier because of the easy lifestyle and convenience of shops and facilities. He married his wife in 2004 and has three adult children who were mostly raised in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

As an active member of the community, Bill is involved with several community organisations including the Kalgoorlie Police and Citizens Club (life member), the Golden Mile Art Exhibition Group, the Hannans Club and the Middle Island Fishing Crew. His position as treasurer for Eastern Goldfields Historical Society Inc also satisfies his interest in genealogical research and history.

A CRG member since 2009, Bill hopes to help make people aware of the positive impact that KCGM and mining has on the community and he enjoys being a link between the company and the public.

Morrie Goodz

Morrie has been living in Kalgoorlie with his wife, two horses and two dogs for over 15 years. He worked on a fly-in fly-out roster for five years before moving to the region and has a passion for the mining industry and the community.

Morrie’s local involvement includes representation on the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community & Industry Reference Group, WA School of Mines Advisory Committee, Core Consultative Committee on Waste Management, Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and Toastmasters.

A CRG member since 2008, Morrie believes it is important to have a cooperative approach with the community and that the establishment of the CRG helps to achieve this outcome.

Jim Watson

Jim has lived in Kalgoorlie-Boulder with his wife for over 40 years, raising their two sons who both now work in the mining industry. He enjoys fishing, scuba-diving and doing home renovations, and enjoys the convenience and quiet lifestyle Kalgoorlie has to offer.

A building contractor by trade, Jim is currently the city builder for the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Council and has won 17 building excellence awards in his career. He is also a member of the Hannans Goldfields Lions Club and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

As somebody who has never worked in the mining industry, Jim feels that he is a good representative of the community and that he can help KCGM to keep improving their relationship with the Goldfields region.

He became a CRG member in 2010 to improve communication between KCGM and the Williamstown community and has since gained a new perspective on the mining industry.

Gina Sambo

Gina was born in Kalgoorlie and has a strong family history in the region dating back to the late 1800’s. She has lived in several states across Australia and moved back to Kalgoorlie more than 20 years ago. Gina has two children, both born in Kalgoorlie, and enjoys camping, prospecting out bush and cultural education.

Gina is the founder and Managing Director of Pathwalkers Aboriginal Employment and Training Specialists and has a passion for raising cultural awareness and helping to improve the lives of individuals within the Aboriginal community.

Gina became a CRG member to get first hand information and become better informed about KCGM’s operations. She is looking forward to being a conduit for communication and an advocate for the Aboriginal community.

Mark Sweet

Mark came to Kalgoorlie from South Africa with his wife and two children over seven years ago, and feels that living in Kalgoorlie-Boulder provides a well rounded lifestyle full of community activities, events and opportunities. Mark enjoys cycling, quad bike riding and going out bush and owns local camping shop Freerange Supplies.

Before becoming a business owner, Mark worked in the African mining industry for 18 years, in underground gold mining, exploration drilling and servicing equipment in nickel and diamond mines.

Mark became a CRG member to learn more about KCGM and its operations and to have input into what KCGM does for the community.

Mia Hicks

Originally from Canada, Mia has lived in Kalgoorlie with her husband and son for over five years. Although she has never worked in the mining industry, Mia has a passion for helping the community As a CRG member, Mia is looking forward to the opportunity to act as a channel between KCGM and the community. She is keen to help communicate any issues and concerns of local residents to the company and ensure they are responded to appropriately.

Mia has been involved with various community groups in the region and is currently a member of the Goldfields Women’s Health Care Centre committee. She is a Senior Grants Officer for the Goldfields-Esperance Development Commission and is passionate about community investment.  In her spare time, Mia enjoys spending time with her family.

Susan Gatti

Originally from Victoria, Susan has been a Kalgoorlie resident for over 12 years. Although she moved to the Goldfields intending to work temporarily, Susan enjoyed the relaxed lifestyle and the sense of community within the region and chose to stay.

With a passion for helping young people and the community, Susan is a regular volunteer at the Kalgoorlie Local Drug Action Group and works as a Senior Health Promotion Officer at the WA Country Health Service. When she is not working and volunteering, Susan enjoys spending time with her two dogs, travelling, socialising, and collecting and restoring antiques.

Susan became a member of the CRG to become an advocate for both KCGM and the community. She is looking forward to being better informed about KCGM’s operations and to sharing this knowledge with the community.
